Plagiarist found on FF.net

Mar 19, 2011 09:28

A person calling themselves RealNCISauthor (of all things!) not only stole four stories by well-known authors in the NCIS fandom, but actually accused them of stealing the stories in the first place. (See screencap of FF.net profile page http://www.fanfiction.net/u/2793774/RealNCISauthor below.)

I'll be the mod for this case. Thanks so much for grabbing the caps. That's always helpful. I'll let you know if I need the rest of them from you.

Thank you. If you need anything from me, please let me know. I'm confident that the others (we're all friends) will also give you anything you might need from them.

Thank you for reporting this. Something about the bio seems familiar to me, but I can't quite place it. I wonder if this person has done this before under a different name.

This sort of thing just really riles me up. I've been plagiarized in the past (in the X Files fandom) so I know how hurt and enraged you feel. It's just...argh!

See, thing is, I can count on one hand the stories by other authors that I would kill to have written myself--and "Worthy" is one of them. But I would never steal someone else's work like that! (And then accuse them of stealing from me. *boggles* Especially in this close-knit fandom. From well known authors, no less! *boggles some more*)

I have no clue who the person is, but I'd say it's a safe bet that, when your bio page is totes writed liek 4 ppl who want 2 read slash but think kink is 4 pervs 'n stuff, nobody in their right mind is going to believe that you can actually produce well written fic. Ya know? *snerk* (Not to mention the fact that stealing from well known kink writers kinda defeats the purpose of bashing kink!fic lovers...)

ROTFLMAO! I KNOW!

And yeah, whoever she is does seem to have some issues with not only slash but kink. And yet steals both. Too, too, whacko.

I'm not the mod on this case, but if you look down one (Foxie/Lazybones) it started out the same way. We rarely get cases like this, where the fact we had two in a *row* is very odd. Although the grammar is different (that is how I caught her) the 'blaming of the real authors' along with the 'kink shaming' is similar. I also think the 'real bayliss' case would be along the same lines too.

This is one of those really odd cases where the plagiarist names the original authors and then claims they stole from her. I wonder what she gets out of this whole thing, since it is obvious no one is fooled for a moment. Weird. But then, the mind of thief is dark and confused placed.

Well, I guess offense is the best defense. And it was just finally time to tell the truth about those lying thieves. /sarcasm

*choking over the stupidity of the profile content*

"mud in NCIS"? Really? When most of the fandom knows the original authors of this stuff? Ha.

Yeah, it's not like we're all hiding in the shadows and pushing our fic out from behind the door. LOL! We're EVERYWHERE and not exactly shy. LOL!

I know that the issue has already been reported to FF.net, and people have left comments/reviews making it clear that the stories were stolen. Up until now, nothing has happened though. :(

Took me FIVE months and SEVEN E-mails to get FF.Net to do anything about "The_Real_Bayliss" Case but they finally did. Persistence, I guess, pays off.

Oh good lord! *boggles* I knew FF.net sucks but this is ridiculous... *headdesk* If the proof's there, do something about it, damn it! Sigh.
