Yosuke had known that there were giant spiders on the ship, of course. He'd beaned one with a blender full of ice once at work, even. But he hadn't really thought about them much until he happened to be flitting around and something sticky just...hit him...out of nowhere.

It was probably lucky that the spider hadn't been home (probably due to all the freaking lava everywhere, but it didn't feel especially lucky to struggle in the stupid web, thrashing and getting even more twisted up in the damned thing all of the time.

By chance, he was dangling upside down, working to free one wing and getting dizzy from the blood that had rushed to his head, when he thought he saw a familiar head of hair below.

"Polly-san?"

"People don't just go around breaking things!"

He pulls his arm back, instinctively. He's nervous, and it's the one time he doesn't much like to be touched. Though he does give Polly a slightly guilty glance a second later, when his heart stops drumming in his chest from the lava scare.

It's probably easy to forget how dangerous stuff like that is when you're invincible. He scrubs a hand over his face. It's another gesture that Polly is more than familiar with.

"Just...hold still and behae for a minute, please?"

"But that's what I made it for."

Frowning, she settles back down on the table and does as he asks.

"I'm sorry I scared you. I just... It's against all the laws of everything, and I've never seen it before."

It isn't just that she had no survival instinct to speak of; a new experience that's this unique is kind of intoxicating.

He sighs, but the look he gives her this time is friendly again. It's almost amused, even if the amusement is warring with a great deal of stress and frustration. In the end, he manages to at least offer a small smile.

"You're against all of the laws of everything, too. You always do exactly the opposite of what people from my planet would."

It's a playful dig, and even a peace offering. In his head the words had been 'what normal people do,' but he'd caught himself thinking it and fixed it before he said it. Apparently, they were both learning new things.

Polly takes it in the same spirit it's offered, laughing. "Maybe not all the laws..."

Spying an edge to the lava lake, she creates a path of pillows from the table to it.

"Let's go to more solid ground. I can study all this just as well, from there."

Yosuke flaps his wings slowly, experimentally. They seem to be in working order again.

"Sure, but I'm not jumping across those pillows. There's no need to." He flexes the wings again and quirks an eyebrow at her. "Want a lift?"

Polly bites her lower lip, and it's clear that she would absolutely love to fly, but she hesitates a moment.

"Are you sure it's alright?"

"Sure, that's the first web that's caught me all day!" Yosuke shrugs, and rolls out his shoulders. He's relaxed enough by now to forget that he's a little under dressed. And unfortunately, he's babbling again.

"Or do you think I might drop you? I won't! I carried another girl already, so it definitely works. Anyway, even if I did drop you, you can't-oh." Crap. He didn't mean to say that. He actually hits himself in the forehead with the flat of one palm. "Sorry! That was...I don't mean that. Shit."

Wings drooping again, he drops down onto the table with a sigh. "Maybe it isn't alright after all."

She grins, holding out a hand to tug him up.

"I didn't think you'd drop me! We can go! I've never gotten to fly, before."

"You'll probably like it. I'd be surprised if you don't."

Yosuke takes the hand up with no complaints, as usual. I't's when he opens his arms for her that he understands why she hesitated in the first place. Oh, right. He'll have to touch her. And she'll have to touch him. And he's not even wearing a shirt...

But even as he starts to doubt, Polly is coming forward, opening her arms, too. Her main concern, after all, had been that he wouldn't be comfortable, but if he was...

"Okay, then!"

That annoying squirming feeling he always gets in his stomach when a pretty girl stands too close or looks him in the eyes is back, but he's pretty sure Polly has no way of knowing that, at least. So he wraps his arms around her gently and kicks himself mentally for being so shy about it. But at least he remembers to clear his throat before he speaks, so that his voice only cracks a little.

"Ready, Polly-san?"

Man, he really hopes she can't hear the way his heart is suddenly hammering in his chest.

She can't hear it, but she can catch the edges of his nervousness. As such, it's equally gently that she puts her arms around his neck. Her own heartbeat is elevated--after all, it's not every day that she gets to fly over a lake of lava! She would be wiggling with anticipation if she wasn't sure that it would make the flight difficult.

"Ready when you are!" she says with a reassuring smile.

He can't help smiling back a bit at that, and he nods firmly. Alright, sure, yes. He's ready ( ... )

It takes Polly a long moment answer, simply because she's too busy laughing. It's like a roller coaster! And she would be wiggling and flailing delightedly, if she wasn't sure it would throw off his glide.

"Do it again!" she cries between giggles. "Again!"

He grins in spite of himself and pulls up suddenly. With barely any effort they've climbed to the top again ( ... )
