A short burst of amicable laughter left his lips on hearing her response, a staccato sound that fell just short of grating as it filled the air between them. He appeared just as relaxed and confident as he had upon his approach, as though he was completely oblivious to the coldness of the glance she gave him; he was aware of it, but as always he cared very little for what she might think of him.

"They must have them here, surely. It seems as though they have most things a person could want~" he made no move to come any closer, though it had nothing to do with her less than welcoming behaviour towards him - he had as little regard for personal boundaries as he did for anything else - but he had no intention of provoking a possibly violent reaction from her. Not for the moment, at least.

A smirk played upon her lips at the sound of his laughter though her eyes remained glacial.

"They do sell them though it's rare sight to see somebody donning one. Then again, I did arrive in the height of summer."

Small talk with no substance. How long would he persist?

The conversation was inane and held no interest for him, but the smirk that crossed her lips caught at the small flame of his curiosity. Besides, he was here now, and whilst he was forever satisfied to remain detached from those around him - to play the objective observer - there was no harm in engaging in a little social interaction now and again. There was undoubtedly something shrewed about her, and he suspected the mindless subject matter was specifically designed to cause him to lose interest.

"I feel the cold more than other people, perhaps," he shrugged languidly before finally moving closer, taking that seat beside her on the bench whether she wanted him there or not, his posture loose and boneless as he turned his face towards her, "you've been here a few months, then." Again, it was a statement rather than a question.

Cocking her head to the side, she gave him an idle look as he sat. Though she kept eye contact, one could tell that she was giving him the benefit of her gaze more out of boredom than curiosity.

"A few."

Curt echoed words. She showed no interest in what he had to say about himself. It was a tactic that had worked well within Romafeller. Men tend to bare their very souls to an unimpressed woman.

Izaya's interests, however, differed considerably to those of the vast majority of men; he had little desire to attempt to provoke curiosity in women - unimpressed or otherwise - unless it specifically suited his purposes, and he was even less inclined to give anything more than trivial details about himself away. That was the kind of information that one was expected to pay for, and the cost would high ( ... )
