Hakkai had made a similar, terrible mistake in deciding to take a small tour of the planet. He had heard that there was quite a collection of stores dealing in rare, difficult-to-find books, and of course his curiosity had been piqued. Unfortunately, all he'd managed to find was a collection of stores packed to the rafters with manga - which, while not without its merits, wasn't quite what Hakkai had had in mind ( ... )

Erik felt someone bump into him, which would have been nothing unusual if it wasn't for the polite apology that followed swiftly after. He had been under the impression that no one on this planet appreciated personal space, or flat-out didn't understand the concept. (Such as the two in costume next to him who were still too close for comfort.) Apparently, he was wrong.

He craned his neck to the side to put a face to the voice and spotted the man, who stood out from the crowd. Not necessarily in clothing but rather in propriety and lack of fervent, borderline insane enthusiasm the rest shared. It was a welcome sight, even though Erik wasn't acquainted with the man.

It also appeared that he had been going against the flow of the crowd, if bumping into him was any indication of the difficulties he was having. Erik ignored the group of incessant people still taking pictures of him, even without his attention, and spoke ( ... )

"Hm?" He had already half-turned away, quite used to his apologies going unnoticed at this point. He hadn't been expecting a response, much less a question, but turned back willingly enough. "Ah, well. I'm trying my best." The person he'd bumped into appeared to be human, possibly of European descent, and had that sort of 'new refugee' look about him that Hakkai had started to notice some of the new arrivals had. He also couldn't help but notice the man's hangers-on, costumed strangers who persisted in photographing him even as he addressed Hakkai. "Is safe to assume you're attempting the same?"

Erik's accent was one of a travelled man, i.e. one that was hard to distinguish as anything specific. But it was easy enough to tell that he had been a travelled man within Europe for much of his life, nonetheless. Both this accent and the loudness of his voice were being put to the test, as Erik practically yelled over all the noise.

"Attempting," he responded, loudly. He promptly shook off the costume girl's hand that was attached to his arm, much to her chagrin. But Erik was in no mood to entertain politeness with people who had modicum of it themselves. "Care for an escort?"

[This man is being mobbed because apparently there are a lot of X-Men fans here.

And everytime he tries to leave-]

Excuse me-

[-he finds himself pinned in by more adoring fans.]

[it appeared that he would likely be crushed in a stampede if no one intervened]

[time to swim through that toxic sea of assorted living things]

Do you need help, sir?

[elbowing her way through]

[He sees someone approaching, and this someone did not wish to take his picture or otherwise latch onto him, from what he could tell. She was immediately a welcome sight.]

Yes, I would like to find the exit.

[And escape these terrible, terrible cosplayers.]

[Despite its flaws, Bruce was spending a lot of time on the planet this month. He had already been informed- more than a year ago, now- that some derivative of his life existed as fiction in a number of universes; this planet was the opportune location to research that further. And if any of the other refugees should happen to be similarly represented...]

[It was very, very easy to tell who was a refugee and who wasn't.]

Sorry to break up the photoshoot, but this area needs to be kept clear for traffic. There will be a panel in a few minutes at the eastern side of the complex, though, if you're interested in hearing some creator insight on the characters.

[The best part, though? No one ever expected an old man to be a cosplayer- evidently it was only his name that was recognizable and not his appearance- so it took no effort at all to pass himself off as a worker. And he was quickly learning just what would cause people to drop everything and go running.]

[It was almost magical how this man's appearance (and the words that accompanied him) dispelled the group, and they all hurried off to wherever the eastern side of this complex might be. Erik can't help but feel a rush of relief take over him, and he looks at the man who just saved him from having to mow down a crowd with a large metal object.

He straightens his shirt and approaches, and speaks wryly.]

I should thank you.

[Whatever polite-yet-friendly-worker air Bruce had on is gone almost immediately, as he's back to acting like just a grumpy old man.]

Lucky I could pull it off. At least you're popular.

[The change in the man's demeanour is abrupt, but nothing that completely throws Erik off for more than a second.]

The reason why escapes me. [Yeah he wasn't paying attention to whatever all those people were ranting about to him.]
