He craned his neck to the side to put a face to the voice and spotted the man, who stood out from the crowd. Not necessarily in clothing but rather in propriety and lack of fervent, borderline insane enthusiasm the rest shared. It was a welcome sight, even though Erik wasn't acquainted with the man.
It also appeared that he had been going against the flow of the crowd, if bumping into him was any indication of the difficulties he was having. Erik ignored the group of incessant people still taking pictures of him, even without his attention, and spoke ( ... )

"Attempting," he responded, loudly. He promptly shook off the costume girl's hand that was attached to his arm, much to her chagrin. But Erik was in no mood to entertain politeness with people who had modicum of it themselves. "Care for an escort?"

Sorry to break up the photoshoot, but this area needs to be kept clear for traffic. There will be a panel in a few minutes at the eastern side of the complex, though, if you're interested in hearing some creator insight on the characters.
[The best part, though? No one ever expected an old man to be a cosplayer- evidently it was only his name that was recognizable and not his appearance- so it took no effort at all to pass himself off as a worker. And he was quickly learning just what would cause people to drop everything and go running.]
