[Canada smiles with obvious relief - an excellent suggestion, he said!
Trying to think of something else, he just shakes his head after a moment.]

I- I'm really sorry, but, it's hard to say. We- we just are who we are. I mean... if I were a character out of a book, but there was no copy of the book, how could you verify it? We... are countries off of our Earth. [Sadly he looks down and fidgets with the end of his tie for a moment. He continues in a voice even more soft and timid, but heart-felt.]

I- I'm sorry, Mister Edgeworth. If you would... I hope you can come to just accept us as we are. L-lots of other people have. I- I can tell they wonder at it and think it's a bit weird, but... they accept it. I am Canada, and I have f-friends who are characters from books and television shows in some worlds, but here, they are their own people. H-here, us countries can... be... ourselves too.

[With an abashed glance at the others - he hope he hadn't said too much - he looks down again.]

[Edgeworth raises an eyebrow at the mention of fictional characters appearing on the Thor, but allows Canada to say his piece. He then fixes his eyes on Canada's mouth, knowing full well how out of place the glare that would probably manifest were he to lock eyes would be completely out of place here; just because he has something deathly serious to say doesn't mean he needs to make this obvious shrinking violet faint.]

Sir... blind faith is simply not something that I am capable of, nor wish to be, for it is a weakness easily abused by the unscrupulous. Trust is something to be earned, and the truth something to be proven; anything less, and society would spiral into chaos. It is not my aim to offend you -- any of you -- but merely to hold fast to the principles that I have struggled to perfect, and to discover how best to apply them here. ...They are all that I have left.

[Canada frowns at the implication that his friends are weak, or that he is unscrupulous. However the expression quickly fades, replaced with quiet attentiveness.

So. That's what this is really about. He nods with personal understanding.]

I see. And I hope-- I'm sure that you will find that application soon.

[Edgeworth nearly smiles.] It will take significant effort, clearly.
