Hot Pants & Ezio [CLOSED] thinkin_arbys August 24 2011, 00:39:20 UTC
[ooc; Continuation of this.]

Despite the flowers, there's a terribly awkward pause. She knows that name for more than one reason, but it doesn't seem to matter.]

So you knew her.

[She picks her mask up carefully, then retrieves the shoes as well. There's no way she can continue on at the party in such a state. As she approaches Ezio, the dress drags through the grass, rustling pleasantly.]

I'm doing this a disservice, I'm sure; it wasn't intentional, though. I liked the color.

[The word "knew" still bothers him. Hard to believe that overnight she was gone. Or perhaps not. He was no stranger to sudden death.]

Yes, she was an ally to the Assassins. [Among other things.]

I am sure it was not. Much like Fiora's clothing. [His memory is sharp, whether for good or for bad.]

I suppose I have very Italian tastes. [She stops just a step or two from him, a gentle smile coming back to her lips.]

...You had far too many beautiful allies. I'm a little... jealous; that you had people you trusted like that is wonderful. I hope they come here, somehow.

[Ezio scoffs lightly.] I do not see why you would be jealous. Beauty can be a treachery. [He has some hope they would return, but it is slim. There is no use for him in clinging onto such a thought so dearly.] Perhaps they will arrive, perhaps they will not. I've found trust in a few others here.

[She steps back a little at his brusque reaction. With all the grief she gives him, it seemed like a good idea to be kind. However...]

It can be, yes, but it can also be a boon if your ally garners more attention than yourself. As with anything, you have to leverage your resources and assets. But trusting someone and being able to rely on them are not always the same.

Is that all beauty is to you? An asset? [Ezio's been friends with Leonardo long enough to appreciate beauty in other things beyond physical beauty.] You assume you are not beautiful then.

[As for the second part, he smirks a little.] Unfortunately, no, they are not always the same. Trust does not go very far for me with certain people.

For your purposes, and theirs, it would be. Many things are truly beautiful--Roma, sunsets, the sway of a wild horse's mane--but they are not what I was referring to. Beauty in anything could be treacherous, yes, but in people it is especially dangerous. I said nothing of myself, though; something about me may be such to one person or another, but why should I think about it?

[She shrugs.] Nor for me. I trust most only on the surface. Were my life at stake, I would be the first they abandoned. This is why I must be, on my own, formidable and singular. It's peaceful, in its own way.

It is only peaceful when one is at peace with themselves. Being alone can become nothing short of torture. Knowing how to be alone is good, and knowing how to fight alone is also good, but being alone is not always easy.

It's the most difficult thing I could have done, and I feel a little foolish about it, but I can't look back or stop. It's become natural, and I can only hope that I'm going to find happiness on this road somehow.

Perhaps you will find more than I did.

[He approaches her a bit, looking over the surface of the water. He goes to pick up another stone and looks it over, flipping it in his palm.] You throw like my brother. I was never quite as good as he was.

You stopped, or are you still on that road? You aren't the type people would leave alone, regardless. People gravitate toward you, or it seems they should. I did.

[Slowly, she turns back toward the water, watching him. Part of her wants to reach out and take the stone, but it's churlish, and she laughs at the impulse.] You throw like my brother... But he was only seven years old. Maybe you should catch up.

If only those people were more like you.

[He looks over his shoulder and cocks an eyebrow, a small grin playing on his lips.] Is that so? Perhaps you should teach me, maestra. I have been out of practice.

In what way? All I do is try to get under your skin.

[Now she does make a playful grab for the stone, a fake half-scowl on her face.] I already tried, but should I try again? You're a slow learner for such a good fighter. Could it be you've reached the point where you're unteachable?

I would prefer to put up with your kind of person than those who are after me. [Ezio smirks] Not that you are much better.

[He rolls his eyes at the comment.] Could it be that you are not very good at teaching?

thinkin_arbys August 24 2011, 22:00:33 UTC
As long as you keep responding, I'm going to keep doing it. I'm just not afraid of you.

[AHA, got the stone. She holds it up and shows it to him, just a little too proud of herself. It's a taunt, a challenge.] That's not possible. You're just too stubborn.

maestro_ezio August 25 2011, 02:59:29 UTC
You are not the first nor the last to not be afraid of me.

[Ezio snatches the stone from her hands, quick as a snake. The rest of his body didn't even move, his eyes never flicker down to her hand as he takes the stone from her. He is almost nonchalant about it.] And you are not?
