Sometimes you have to clean things with fire. Cleansing, healing fire.

Before I go off on the horrible, horrible living conditions (and mental state) of the people on Hoarders last night, I want to remind everyone that Southland - TNT's best show on air - comes back tonight. Check your local listings, watch watch watch. It's an outstanding drama, and it happens to be a cop drama written by/conceived by women. ( Read more... )

tv, oh em gee, wtf no seriously wtf?, opinions? oh i got opinons, tales of stupid people

These are the up-the-hill cousin's honyock's chickens, just before they came and asked politely if I had any treats to share. They are working on a few problems, notably apple maggot in the century-old orchard. That's their house, there on the back wall of the stable.

I'm a big fan of a handful of chickens and plan on having a mini ranch with some goats and chicks myself. But I come from farm people and know that they need SPACE and that space needs to not be inside your bedroom.

GAH.

I'm not even convinced that canaries belong in the house, myself.

Julia, grew up on Yelm Prairie with about a million chickens, luckily down wind of me.

I get the sense that this show is REALLY GOOD MOTIVATION to keep one's house very clean. ;)

(Also, can I "hell yes" your chicken sub-rant? Because, hell-yes. I'm semi-vegetarian, actually (I eat fish so the label's just a convenient way of getting people to understand that it isn't okay with me to be served beef stock or whatever), but if I ate meat, it would be of the organic, free-range, lovingly sung to variety. There are local farms that do this, and I wish more people took advantage. They complain about the expense of ethically-raised meat, but like you said, it's not such a big problem for the average middle-class person IF THEY SIMPLY CHOOSE TO EAT A TEENSY BIT LESS OF IT, YES?

/MY SUB-RANT IS NOW OVER THANKS STONEY :)

OMG, I get my house so clean in preparation for watching in ep, so for that, it's worth it. Also, I find the methods used to treat the anxiety in the hoarders to be very interesting/informative.

But this one? Gleck.

And yeah, we'll share space on that soap box.

Husband and I watched a few documentaries a few months back and I was just DISGUSTED by big business and their treatment of animals (and hell, farmers too).

We both agreed that the extra expense was worth it if it meant we weren't funding the super companies and now I refuse to buy any meat that isn't organic. I just wish I could find more grass fed beef up here in the PNW in my grocery store but I have a feeling I'm gonna have to wait for the summer markets.

I...probably shouldn't have been reading this while eating my lunch. Blerg.

As for the spiders, KILL THEM ALL WITH NAPALM. I had a dream about a big sucker that moved too fast for me to kill it last night. Nearly woke up with a panic attack. *shudders*

NOPE. This show also serves as a good way to stick to my goals of not nibbling after 8pm.

GAH SPIDERS. I've not seen them in these people's houses. WHen it's too bad for SPIDERS, YOU HAVE GONE TOO FAR.
