Date: 14 November 2005 Characters: Ernie Macmillan, Zach Smith Location: Hammerside Status: Private Summary: Ernie and Zach hash some things out. Completion: Complete
Zach had been at Hammerside the past few hours, giving an estimate on one of the flats there. The tenent needed the floors patched in a few areas and wanted some bookshelves built into one of the bedrooms as well as a few other refurbishments. It would be good work and he left an estimate and promised to owl a few plans along within the week.
He looked around as he made it to the lobby and raised an eyebrow at the smoothie bar. What the hell was a smoothie? And did it have alcohol in it?
He got close enough to read the signs, looking over the different fruity names, when he noticed the man at the bar. Oh fuck. "Brilliant," he said tersely, to the back of Macmillan's head. "I won't say welcome back, but then I don't suppose you expected me to."
Ernie whirled around so quickly that he nearly spilt his smoothie. Somehow, though, he managed to keep it upright. Smith. Just as he opened his mouth to snap back, he closed it quite abruptly, his conversation with Adair playing in his mind. While Smith might think Ernie was a prat, and have no qualms describing him as such, Ernie was determined to be the better person. After all, he'd helped Eleanor quite a lot while Ernie was...away.
"Smith," he said with a nod. "I...er...I'd like to...my behavior in Eleanor's shop that day...was...uncalled for. So...er..." Try as he might, he couldn't force the words 'I'm sorry' from his mouth. "Yes."
Zach glared at him. "Are... what? You're apologizing about that?" What a complete and total tosser. He took the chair next to him, still glaring. "I don't give a shit how you treat me, or what you say to me, or what you do to me even. But I'll tell you this once. If you ever hurt Elle like that again, don't bother coming back, because I will make you sorry." He was so fucking angry at the prat.
Ernie was incredulous. Here he'd gone out of his way to apologize--in a fashion--and Smith had the audacity to threaten him. "Firstly, what transpires between Eleanor and myself is none of your business. Secondly, this is my place of business. I'd appreciate it if you'd tone down your language." He took a long sip of his smoothie to keep from saying anything inappropriate. There were other people around. And his boss lived upstairs.
