Working the leads, Kingsley ended up in Victoria that morning, chatting up some blokes around the Phoenix Street building collapse and reconstruction. One of the workers pointed him toward a gruff foreman and a few minutes later, he learned he'd missed Ernie by a day.
The foreman handed the photograph back to Kingsley, "Auror, eh? Too bad you aren't looking for work. We could use a big bloke like yerself. Yeah, that's Macmillan. Had to let him go yesterday morning. What's he done?"
Kingsley ignored the question and asked one of his own, "Did he ever mention where he was staying or is there someone who could tell me if he left an address?"
"Wouldn't know, but you can talk with the secretary." He waved a calloused hand toward the makeshift offices.
"Thanks, mate." Kingsley headed over to talk with the secretary. Then he'd canvas the neighborhood.
Later that evening, and much shoe leather later, Kingsley didn't know much more than he had that morning, but thought he owed Elle an owl anyway. Pulling a piece of paper from his muggle notepad, he wrote a quick note and sent Fleck off to deliver it before heading for the shower and sleep.
Dear Eleanor,
I learned today that Ernie had been working construction on a building project in the magical portion of Victoria in London. I've also found a pub he's been to. I'm continuing the search, but since he's no longer working the construction site, he might be looking to move on. I'll let you know as soon as I know something more. Hang in there, we'll find him yet.
