"Oh! Hello, Michael." She stood and gave him a quick hug. "How've you been?" She was very aware of the conversations she'd had with Marietta and Harry about him, and her voice was fairly empty of the knowledge.
She gestured at the seat across from her.

He tried to catch the waitress' eye, which wasn't difficult as she was carrying a plate toward them, which she deposited in front of Orla. "I'll have one of those," he said. "And a Guinness."
"So, how've you been lately?" he said, deciding not to wait for the shoe to drop. "Marietta seemed to enjoy shopping with you."

The waitress nodded at his order, and went to the bar, retrieving a pint glass for Michael. Orla took a drink from her water glass, and fiddled with her fork, trying to think how to answer him.
"I've been well. Decided to get some work done on my house too, change the layout some. Unfortunately, Harry doesn't have time to help both of us." That ought to shock him, she thought. His immediate tackling the topic of Marietta set her a bit on edge, as she valued her friend regardless of the men that were involved. And it seemed like Marietta talked to him about what they had talked about. Which was fine, but Michael, for all he was a charmer, was rather liberal with his charms. She didn't really approve.

He'd braced himself for a bit of cynicism on her end, possibly even direct disapproval. What he had not expected was for Harry's name to be thrown out. If he didn't know better, be might have thought that she knew about what happened there. But surely, not...he didn't know Harry all that well, but Michael figured the last thing he would do is go around discussing something like that ( ... )
