"Morning, Shacklebolt," said Lisa as she opened the door wide, allowing him inside. There wasn't a hair out of place on her head, but she hadn't troubled much to hide the fact that she'd been here for hours with very little sleep in between their last meeting and current. Upon further investigation into Moriarty's grimoire, as it was, she'd decided that more than the typical wards would likely be necessary: as to Slughorn's warning that a personal desire for power might spark it, she wasn't particularly worried about either herself or Shacklebolt. Short-tempered though he might have been, Lisa had had cause to study his career extensively during her time as an Auror, and had never seen any sign to that effect. Besides, Moody had certainly seemed to trust him- so far as Gawain's trust in his judgement went, that was almost good enough for her ( ... )

Kingsley watched, curious about whether or not the lady was going to decide to remove it from its case to her own. Of course he had no idea what exactly her case did, but unless it was a safe portal cabinet and her decision to apparate with it was simply a ruse, Kingsley thought the odds on a good outcome were low.

Resolutely, he kept his ears open and his mouth shut.

Lisa quirked an eyebrow as Slughorn spoke. Of course, side-along Apparation was of an entirely different sort of magic than what the case ought to have been warded against; she wouldn't blame whatever Aurors or Unspeakables had been previously assigned if it they'd been extra careful, but making the thing so difficult to transport that it would be well-nigh impossible to remove in an emergency situation would have been quite an oversight. Still, they weren't in an emergency situation, and if it truly was safer to floo or even walk- and the thought of strolling gaily down the streets of Stoatshead with Shacklebolt at her side truly was amusing- she'd be happy to oblige. Keeping it as far from random passerby as possible was her main priority, however ( ... )

"It isn't that simple, I'm afraid," said Horace. "The book itself has faint traces of some variant on the usual anti-apparation spell. There shouldn't be a problem with anyone carrying it normally, but you have to remember that Moriarty was cunning and extremely malicious. He wanted to infect wizards with his lust for power, and what I can only describe as a passion for dementedly complex plots. Splinching fragments of the book into your body would certainly do the infecting part."

"Anyway, I think that we've both finished our tea. Would you like to take a look at it?"
