It wasn't nearly as distracting having Zach working at the centre as Wayne had originally expected. Of course, he was definitely able to separate work from play, even when the two overlapped, so he was glad that Zach seemed to be okay with everything. There'd been a few moments when he'd been tempted to touch or playfully leer, but he'd been a good boy. Now, it was time to go home, take a nice cold shower, and have a drink so he could get ready to do this all over again tomorrow ( ... )

Zach smiled when he heard Wayne's voice and he turned to look at him. Bastard. He knew how good he looked, leaned against the wall, damn near smirking at him.

"I'd say that you likely should be worried. But that I'd love you to wait on me." Catching Wayne's eyes he felt himself blush then silently cursed himself for it. That's right, jut hand him more ammunition, Zach. "How was your day? You looked pretty busy. Not that I was watching your every move or anything."

He ran a hand through his hair and looked around. "D'you see my bloody shirt anywhere? I can't find the damn thing."

"Why should I be worried?" he asked curiously, arching a brow when Zach blushed. Well then. Maybe he wasn't the only one in need of a cold shower. Stop that, he scolded the voice urging him to conserve water by sharing a shower.

He grinned. "My day was okay. As you said, a little busy," he said. "And you weren't watching me? You really know how to hurt a bloke, Smith. Here I was, sneaking peaks occasionally, and you weren't looking at all."

"Nah, I don't see it. Easy enough to find, though." He pulled out his wand and said, "Accio Zach's shirt." The shirt flew over to him from where it had fallen behind a chunk of plaster. "Here you go, mate."

"Yeah, all right. I might have looked once," Zach said grudgingly. He watched as Wayne accioed his shirt. "Thanks. Don't know why I couldn't have done that. It seems I have trouble thinking when you're around."

He smiled and walked over to him. Alarms went off in his head because it was a bad idea to get too close to the man when he was half dressed. But he needed to get his shirt from him, right? Course he did.

"Thanks," he said quietly, reaching out to taking hold of his shirt that Wayne was currently holding. Sure, he likely didn't need to touch his hand to do that, but he couldn't help it.

"No, I had it out in the hall while she sat at her table," he said dryly, rolling his eyes. "Course we had it together."

"We're neighbors, and we happen to have at least one or two things in common," he told him, giving him a pointed look. "So, yeah, we ran into each other and, after a slight awkwardness as she decided I wasn't planning to challenge her to a duel or some dramatic shite over you, it was good. She's a lovely girl."

He grinned. "Yeah, I was walking in the rain, too, when I ran into her. Definitely unexpected, but it was enjoyable. Anyway, I can see why you'd fancy her easy enough. If I'd run into her before meeting you, might have had to sweep her off my feet myself," he said with a wink before he shook his head. "But, yeah, drinking isn't going to make things any better so long as you get falling on your arse pissed."

"Smart arse," he grumbled, grinning at him.

"Look, it was just a shock to hear that you two were together. I didn't expect... well, it doesn't matter. I'm glad. I'm glad you got on with her. I'm sure she fell in love with you, you're right up her alley. Much more together than I am. And you're a complete charmer. Yeah. I can see her liking you. I knew she would." He grinned. "Now I'll have to chat with her about you. See if she thought your arse was as sexy as I do."

"Us getting on makes things a little easier, I suppose, yet it also makes it worse," he said, shrugging. "Selfishly, I'd like to keep seeing you, get to know you better and just see what happens, if anything. Now, though---well, she's really brilliant, and I feel like an utter shite for being the 'other woman', so to speak."

He laughed softly. "Right fucking mess, yeah?" He snorted and rolled his eyes. "Not much of a charmer at all, mate, and certainly not likely to have birds or blokes falling in love with me at a drop of a hat."

"My arse, huh?" He slowly smiled. "Didn't know you thought it was sexy, Smith. Anything else I should know about?"

Zach looked down at his feet again. "You don't need to feel bad. 's not your falt. It's mine, I do take responsibility for it. And Mandy and I weren't dating. You know?" He shrugged. "She's been a good friend for a long time. I don't know what would have happened if I'd not met you. We're both scared of fucking up what we have, 's why we've not let anything happen before now, you know?"

He looked up. "Don't feel badly. I don't want that. And I wouldn't take back my meeting you. Not for anything."

Smiling, he stepped a bit closer. "How could you not know?" he asked quietly. "I think I've been perfectly clear in that area."

"Ernie? Eh, he's all right. We've shared a pint or three in recent months," he said. "Eleanor's a love, though. Far too good for him, but he's just a lucky bastard, I suppose."

They headed to Socks to get food, and he wondered how long he'd be able to resist the urge to snog Zach. After meeting Mandy, though, it wasn't so easy to just take a chance and see if the risk was worth it. Right awkward now, really, even if his attraction and feelings for Zach hadn't changed.

"All right? No, he's a prat," Zach grumbled, shoving his hands in his pockets. "Said you were a friend of his. He didn't use some weird hex on you to get you to hang out with him, did he?" He looked up at Wayne as they walked. "Eleanor is nice. I liked her a lot. She'd be cool to hang out with, but I doubt that'll happen. Macmillan will have told her what a complete bastard I am by now." His arm brushed against Wayne's as they walked. "Did you have another meeting today?"

"No, he didn't hex me," Wayne said, laughing outright. "Though I think I might have scared him back when we first started becoming friendly. Told him he needed to get naked and feel the wind on his bits cause it helps a bloke thing. Don't think he's ever taken that advice."

"You're not a complete bastard, just a partial one," he teased. "'sides, Eleanor's a strong woman who can make up her own mind about people."

"Not a formal one. Just met with one of the people helping get the centre in order and all. Nothing major."

"Yeah. He said at first he thought you were 'too happy.' I didn't know what the fuck he meant, nearly punched him. And no, I'm sure he didn't because the fool never thinks."

He grumbled and nudged Wayne with his elbow. "Thanks for being so supportive mate," he said, shaking his head. "Only a partial bastard. Can always count on you to lift my spirits. Prat."

Zach nodded. "That's cool. I didn't think it was anything formal, or you'd have worn a tie." Oh, how he'd like to see him in a tie. Although those jeans were quite nice.
