Draco paused with his quill above his parchment. This would be the first actual commitment he'd be making towards this new venture. Starting a business from scratch was a risk, not that he was nervous. Before he actually gave notice to Rabastan, he had to be sure.
This was only right, he knew. Only good business practice to give ample notice when one intended to find other employment. And now was the time. He had the idea. He was commited to it, and had even gotten premises, but he'd not be ready to open for at least a month, optimistically speaking. That gave Rabastan time to find a replacement, should he decide he need one.
Unlike some might be inclined to believe, Draco had no problem understanding loyalty, especially in business. Put quite plainly, Rabastan had given him employment when he'd sorely needed it, as well as useful experience when it came to running a business. He was neither too proud nor too stupid to realise he owed the older man the courtesy of proper notice.
Putting his quill to the parchment, he penned a letter.
Dear Rabastan,
I hope this letter finds you well. We've slipped back into corresponding mainly by owl again, it seems.
I am writing today, not only to deliver my report for the week, but to inform you that my circumstances have changed in terms of employment. I've decided that, as you know, the best way for one to be successful in this new society is to go into business for oneself, and that is what I plan to do. I'll be opening a coffee and tea shop in the not very distant future.
This would not be happening for at least a month, but I thought it prudent to give you as much notice as possible that once it happens, I would no longer be able to work for you. It has been an enlightening experience, and I've learned many things that will no doubt be useful in my own venture. For that, I am grateful and thank you for the opportunity.
