Ginny was in the kitchen taking the kettle off the burner when she heard the distinct thud from a Floo arrival followed by a grumbling cough that made her smile. It was good to have the Floo back and it made her house feel like a real home for once, moreso with Ron there. Putting the kettle on the hotplate, she crossed into the living room and enveloped her brother in a big hug. "Hey you. It's great to see you."
"Would you like a cuppa or the grand tour first?" Ginny asked, stepping back and grinning madly. She'd been apprehensive about seeing Ron again but now that he was there, it was as if time had just peeled away and the awkwardness of Christmas was gone.
The next thing Ron knew, Ginny was hugging him hard. "Hey, Gin. It's good to see you too." When she stepped back, he couldn't help notice that she looked a lot happier than the last time he'd seen her. He was definitely glad for that.
"Amazing to say, I'm not ravenous at the moment," he teased, "so I can wait to eat and whatnot. I'd love to see your place now if you want to show me." He gave her a sheepish grin. "I honestly have no idea where we are."
Ginny laughed and nodded toward the front door as she crossed to it and stepped outside on to the porch. Walking to the corner, she pointed up the hill where the very top of the Observatory could be seen. "We're on the back side of Observatory Hill, actually. The road ends about a half mile from this side of the hill so it's a bit of a walk the first time if you don't have Floo."
"The bird at the Ministry just gave me a penciled up map and sent me out to look for a place. When I came up that hill, I thought, 'Merlin, I'd be crazy to want to live out here.' and then the sun crested the trees and I fell in love. The house was nearly burned to the ground. Jack and Roger repaired it for me, actually. Did a brilliant job of it." Pushing the door open, she gestured for him to follow her back inside.
Ron followed Ginny out the house. When they reached the corner of the porch, he followed the line of her hand as she pointed up the hill toward the Observatory. "Ohhh...okay, wow, you're pretty far out here. Almost in the woods. Yeah, bit of walk. Glad I Floo'd over."
"So you sort of fell in love with the location, even the house was mostly gone?" He shook his head in amazement. "You're braver than I would've been. We were lucky to find a house that wasn't too torn up. The fact that it was close to the Burrow wasn't really a drawback for me." He gave her a level look. "I know you wanted to get out from under Mum's thumb too. She means well, but she's still our mum. She wanted me to move in with her and you when I first got home. I just flat out told her no, though I was polite about it." He looked around at the building, which appeared to be in perfect shape. "Jack and Roger did a great job." He was surprised she'd mentioned Jack Sloper at all. The fact that she did, without muttering curses, probably meant she was over him, Ron

"Merlin, I can hear her now. Ginevra Molly Weasley!" Ginny laughed, holding the smile even when Ron talked about missing their dad. "He was proud of you, Ron. Real proud." She blinked away the hot sting in her eyes. "Me too

"Yeah, I can hear her too! 'Course with me it was always Ronald Bilius Weasley," he said with a soft laugh. Ginny's next comment made him more serious. "He was? You were? Thanks." He found his eyes getting wet and he rubbed away a tear with his little finger. When he got up and hugged Ginny, she hugged him back hard, tucking her head under his chin

"No worries, Ron." Ginny laughed as he stuffed the sandwich in his mouth. Ron was never one to waste food and his automatic action left her smirking. "I'll stop by, I promise. Have a good day at work."
Ginny waved as he stepped into the Floo and was gone in a puff of Floo powder.
