The breathing exercises helped. Sort of. He didn't really listen to most of what she said after that, though he caught something about not taking sides and meeting in the middle. None of it seemed to register, caught up as he was in wracking his memory for those oddly missing pieces of the past couple of days. It was only when Orla raised her voice to get his attention that it dawned on him that she'd already asked him those same questions twice now.

"Oh...sorry," he muttered, shaking his head again. "I'm having a hard time...remembering. We...um...well, we had that fight on Thursday afternoon, and then I..." His voice trailed off again. "I think I slept well. At least I don't remember any nightmares. And then Friday I just...walked around the house and - well, I guess I was pretty angry, didn't get much done, and I don't think I wrote in the journal that day. And Friday night, I think I slept well again." The feeling of unease was definitely growing. That was impossible. He always had nightmares, every night without ( ... )

"What exactly are you asking him to brew?" Andy asked with a hint of trepidation and wariness. She was a bit familiar with Muggle drugs, but having been firmly ensconced in wizarding life (even when she lived in Muggle neighborhoods) for so many years left her mostly ignorant about Muggle methods of healing.

"Muggle medicine perscribes fluoxetine, venlafaxin, sertraline, mirtazapine, olanzapine, quetiapine, or lamotrigine. They're all meant to help with equalizing the state of the mind. I'd recommend fluoxetine, but-" She broke off, shaking her head. She sounded incredibly muggle.
"YOu'll need to trust me on this. I know what symptoms we're trying to target with this, so I can work with Slughorn to get a very specific formule specifically for Ted."

Ted understood almost nothing of what the two women were discussing. Medicines, certainly, medicines for him, but for what, exactly? Orla had mentioned that sedative before, but somehow he didn't think that's what was being talked over now.

"What will these potions do to me?" The thought of being drugged into "wellness" didn't appeal to him in the least. Then again, his own body seemed to be spinning ever more rapidly out of control, and how was that any better? At least with the former, life might be easier for Andy.

"Will they help with the...the things I can't remember?"

"It's like this, Mr. Tonks." She sat across from him and Andy. "You're having these blackouts, which are to be expected, and when you discover the gaps in your memory, the stress this causes you impedes your revisiting those times. You panic, understandably, because you can't remember, and your mind seems inclinded to retreat from the shock of those holes in your knowledge of yourself ( ... )
