Date: March 13, 2005
Characters: Rita Skeeter, Irma Pince
Location: Their homes.
Status: Private
Summary: Did you get an invite to the party?
Completion: Complete

Rita was quite certain Horace Slughorn would have invited everyone he knew and a lot of people he didn't to his little party. As uncomfortable as the man had made her, during her school days -- she'd sworn, back then, that he was always staring at her chest, but it was entirely possible that she'd imagined it -- he was an expert at networking. So she was sure Ollivander had received an invitation. And she would never do anything as simple as inviting Kingsley to a party with her.

But Irma was another story. The woman had admitted that she didn't get out much, so it was entirely possible that Slughorn didn't even know she was in town. And what sort of friend would she be if she didn't ask Irma along? There would be free alcohol, and a few single wizards of appropriate ages were bound to attend.

Never let it be said that Rita couldn't handle competition.

Dear Irma,

How have you been? I spent a few days abroad this past week, in talks with foreign media magnates about Prophet investment, which was simultaneously thrilling and incredibly dull.

A few days ago I received an invitation from Horace Slughorn to a party he's hosting on St Patrick's Day. Housewarming and a business launch. I suspect every wizard and his broomstick will be there. You may already have an invitation of your own, but I thought it possible that Horace may not have heard you're in town. If you haven't received one, I was wondering if you might like to come with me as my guest? I suspect it will be an interesting gathering.

Regards,

Rita

P.S. Oh, by the way, I found a man in town that you can HAVE. Not that I imagine you'll want him. Merlin's balls. Did you ever meet Ludo Bagman during the Triwizard Tournament? Washed up Quidditch player, one too many bludgers to the head, I think. Oh, he was USEFUL during the tournament, and I was - shall we say - rather grateful, but now he's in town he seems to think he'll be given the same privileges as before. Merlin, I'll have to tell you about some of his more hilarious attempts to interest me when next we see each other.

Ah, Ludo could be useful for something, maybe. Like making Irma laugh.
