Jeff Whitecalf had been born on a small reserve in northwestern Ontario, and the furthest he'd been from home was Washington, D.C. -- that only because Cedric and Gwen had hauled him down there. But the trip was fortunate as it meant he had a passport, even if he hadn't technically needed one. Still, in a post-9/11 world, even the American Border could be tricky. And if he'd been meaning to visit England for some time, he hadn't planned on these circumstances.

So being landed in Heathrow Airport in London with nobody to meet him and no real idea of where he was going was disorienting to say the least. But his brother was laid up, and Jeff took things as they came. Nor was he afraid to ask questions. He managed to find a train to Exeter, and from Exeter, a cab out to the edge of town. "There's nothing out here, mate," the driver said. "In fact, it's probably unhealthy. They had some sort of chemical spill or something -- don't rightly remember -- out in Ottery St. Catchpole. That whole area is off limits."

"Not going to Ottery St. Catchpole," Jeff replied. It wasn't a lie. He was going to Stoatshead Hill.

"Whatever, mate." The cabbie let him out, took the fare, and asked no more questions. Jeff shouldered his backpack, his guitar and his drum, and started walking.

It took him over an hour to reach the town. He'd walked further to be sure, but he missed his bike. The town looked like it was in serious recovery from a storm, and an odd mix of Muggle and Magical. He'd been to European-style Wizarding areas in Toronto with Cedric aplenty, so it wasn't strange to him. In fact, he thought the inhabitants were probably more startled by the big Indian dude than he was by them. Stopping an older woman, he said, "Grandmother, can you tell me how to find a place called The Bookworm?"

After blinking in confusion at his form address, she gave him instructions and he set off over the river and down Alpha Lane until the pair of houses came into view, the further one the store. By that point, it was late afternoon and he wasn't sure how long the place would be open, but it seemed he'd just made it. Local time was a little after 5:30.

As he walked up the path, he was surprised to feel a tingle of strong wards. European style, but he recognized the sensation. Paranoid much?, he wondered to himself. You put wards on a closed store, not an open one, but he shrugged. They'd all been through a war. He'd heard enough from Cedric.

Pulling the door open, he ducked his head to enter, careful of the backpack and other things. "Hello? Is there a Hermione Granger around about?"
