"I do believe I understand, but I could be incorrect as I cannot read your thoughts." He spoke softly.

Sanguini knew he came from a different world than Narcissa, a different time. He wasn't even human. She had grown up a Black, a legendary family all on its own. He was pureblood as well, but descended from a line that had died out when he became a vampire. His sister had never had a child. And Narcissa had had a vampiric tutor, from what he had garnered from her words. She seemed to have a kinship with his kind, and he felt almost as if she was old as he was, as if she had seen the world to the extent he had.

He smiled when she tugged at him, and let out a soft chuckle when she adjusted his collar.

"It's called Parietis. It's south of Lyon in France. It's only ruins now, but it is where I was born."

Sanguini almost leaned into the gentle brushing of fingers against his jaw, but he kept still and closed his eyes. He hadn't Apparated such a long distance in a very long time, and knew his body was not used to it. The pull low in his body was unpleasant, but not startling. He opened his eyes when they appeared in a field in Lyons. He felt the plants gently touching him through the thick denim of his jeans, provoked by the wind. He could see perfectly in the dark, thankfully ( ... )

Sanguini frowned when he saw how weakened Narcissa was from both Apparating and looking into his thoughts. He had wanted to show her his home, but not at the cost of her health or well-being. He held her up easily, having inhuman strength, and was careful not to grip her arms too tightly when she placed her hands on his chest in an attempt to stand tall. A small smile came to his lips when she laughed.

"You may take as long as you like, Narcissa."

"There is no need to apologize." Sanguini said softly.

He released the light grip he had on her arms and allowed her to step back from him, a gentle smile still on his face. His expression turned serious when she spoke of the lack of sound.

"The village was destroyed over a century ago, and no one has ever bothered to repair it. It was a small Wizarding town, but not one many knew of. My father was the leader of most of the people here, even if he spent most of his time traveling to other countries."

Sanguini gestured to the ruin of the town center.

"That was the town center, although it's not more than rubble now."

He offered his hand to her before starting to walk out of the field.

"There were legends told to frighten children, but the land is not cursed. Unless something has changed significantly in the last decade. I suppose that technically, as my parents are dead, I own much of the land, although I likely wasn't in their will. They thought I was killed in battle rather than becoming a vampire. Without knowing who the land belonged to, and with everything destroyed, I doubt anyone would be interested in rebuilding it. It has no great resources or other virtues. It was simply a village."

A village, however, that was quite close to Sanguini's heart.

"I may have only lived here for nine years or so, but I do remember this place fondly."

Once they reached the edge of the field, the ruined village was revealed. Everything had been made of stone and wood, but most of the wood was now little more than dust, and the stone bricks were scattered and broken. It was eerily empty, but Sanguini still felt a pang of nostalgia, because he remembered what it had looked like when he was a child.

Sanguini was silent as they walked through the ruins of the village. He carefully guided her around the various piles of cracked stone and rubble, leading her to the one place he had in mind. It took them a fair amount of time to get around the main buildings of the village, but once they did, Sanguini pointed to the large building in front of them. It was obvious that a severe amount of damage had been done to it, but it was still standing by some odd whim of fate.

"My home. I was told that it was kept empty for my father if he ever returned from England, but to my knowledge he never came back."

Sanguini glanced down at the silver rings on his hands.

"These were a gift from him when I turned seventeen. The only reminder I have of him that has lasted my whole life. He said they were enchanted to last forever, but I didn't believe him at first. Perhaps they are not immortal, but lasting four centuries is impressive nonetheless."

"It varies greatly. Sometimes nostalgia strikes and I end up back here every few months, other times I leave it for years. Either way, it is always the same. Perhaps some of the stone has shifted or I find remnants of a fire, but otherwise it is a rather comfortable constant."

He saw a frown briefly pass through her expression and wondered if she sensed something he didn't. The vampire was rather numb to magic, having none of his own anymore, but it was obvious that there was something bothering her.

"We can leave if you like." He spoke softly. "It is obvious that something is causing you to be quite tense."

"My senses are heightened in many ways, but not so much when it comes to magic. I might be able to hear someone whisper a mile away, but I could not tell an enchanted object from one that is not ( ... )
