Adrian had arrived at the Five Alarm at about twenty to six, but he didn't mind being early as it had given him a chance to set the corner table up just the way he'd wanted it. He had always been one for subtle detail after all. He had ordered a bottle of red wine - hoping she liked red wine, and realizing shortly that he really knew nothing at all about Marietta except maybe that they both enjoyed old forms of mathematics - and had it and the three dozen roses he'd picked up in Exeter set on the table. Unbuttoning his black sports coat, he sat behind the vase of the roses, hidden slightly from the door, hoping to see her reaction to the display before she saw him. He ordered himself two fingers of double malt scotch and sipped the liquor as he waited.
