Adrian's letter yesterday had sent Marietta into a bit of a tizzy. The man wanted a date with her, on Valentine's Day. She had met him once, spoken with him only briefly and yet he wanted to see her again tonight. He'd mentioned wine and roses, yet she was to meet him at a pub. So whatever she wore ought to be feminine but not too dressy.

A quick look through her clothes cupboard proved that Marietta had absolutely nothing appropriate to wear, so at noon Wednesday she Apparated to Plymouth, where she had lived for several months and was familiar with the shops. After frantically trying on numerous unsuitable dresses, she finally settled on a dark red patterned dress with a deep-cut neckline and three-quarter sleeves. It fit well and looked feminine, and the neckline, while deep, wasn't slutty. She had a nice pair of black sling-back sandals that would go well with the dress ( ... )

Adrian saw Marietta arrive in a red dress that fit her in just the right places. She couldn't see him hidden behind the roses and so he moved slightly into the open and stood, walking around to the front of the table and across the room to meet her. "Marietta." He said with a nodd toward her and a small smile. "I'm glad you could come. It's only right you get to properly celebrate your new job and new familiar and, well, no one should be alone on Valentines." He took her hand in his and kissed the back of lightly before letting go and gesturing toward the table with another nod. "Shall we?"

Adrian suddenly appeared from behind the massive vase of roses. That was interesting. He'd apparently been waiting for her there, perhaps even watching her reaction to the flowers. Then he crossed the room and greeted her by kissing her hand.

This is a sophisticated man, thought Marietta. And a bit cunning too, by the look of it. Obviously a Slytherin. A Ravenclaw probably wouldn't have bothered with that bit of intrigue ( ... )

"You look wonderful. I wanted something just a little bit more than extravagant - somehow it seemed fitting. You made quite the impression on me when we met, I wanted to do at the least the same if you offered me a second opportunity to do so." Adrian said as he helped her into the booth, standing by the table to open the wine.

"I hope you like red, if not, I can order something else just as easily - this seemed a great sort though, one I've wanted to try for a bit. It's a Chianti I heard of while we were traveling in Italy, and I figured it seems a pretty good night to try new things." Adrian poured the two glasses and handed Marietta one before sitting down himself ( ... )
