Mandy had been busy penning a letter when she heard Zach's voice outside. She went over to the window and flung it open suddenly in the hopes of startling him. "What do you want?"

She blinked.

It was almost as if she was seeing double...or she was seeing Zach and his younger-self. The younger wizard was gripping Zacharias around the waist quite tightly, and that earned Zach a questioning glance from Mandy.

"Hey, you want to come in?" she asked Adair as she nodded over her shoulder to the inside of her flat. Maybe the kid is scared of flying.

"Uh huh," Adair said quickly, and Zacharias winced at feeling of nails digging into his skin. He maneuvered the broom around and landed, lowering it so Adair's feet touched the ground.

As soon as that happened, Adair scrambled off and didn't look at Zach as he propped it against the railing.

"You okay?"

"Yeah," Adair's voice was slightly higher, "you just moved too fast, scared the shit out of me!"

Zacharias frowned. He didn't think he moved quickly.. he thought he was taking it slow. Instead of saying so, he turned to Mandy, shrugging.

"This is Adair. My brother. He wanted to see who I hated most in the world, so I brought him here."

Mandy found Adair's behaviour slightly strange as she didn't know him, but she knew Zach well and doubted he would have gone any faster on the broom than was normal. She didn't say so though, and pretended to ignore Zach as she turned her back on him and sat on the arm of a chair as she watched his younger brother.

"He only hates me because I pity him slightly less than everyone else and so I don't lie to him to save that fragile ego of his. It's quite sad really..."

Mandy trailed off and glanced at Zach briefly. "What did your poor brother do to earn the punishment of staying with you?"

"Hey, he wanted to visit me, I didn't tell him to come and see me," Zacharias replied, taking a seat beside Mandy and looking up at Adair, who was looking around the room curiously.

"Her flat is nicer than yours, yours is dirty," Adair said bluntly, and looked back at Zach, who rolled his eyes and glanced at her.

"We were just stopping by. I was gonna take him flying."

Zach didn't notice that Adair visibly stiffened and looked away.

"Okay, that's safe." Zacharias wrapped an arm around his silence brother, deciding not to ask what the problem was in front of Mandy. He knew that would upset him, and he probably wouldn't find out if the went in that route.

Mandy had the strong desire to rub her temples and just go back home. She hated making mistakes, and what had promised to be a good evening now looked set to be uncomfortable and tense.

"Did you know that a lot of the elves there actually did work in the kitchens back at the school? I even saw one that I remember getting a cupcake from way back in sixth year."

"Yeah? I only went to the kitchens once or twice, really. I was never hungry, always doing something."

"Yeah, and Mum always got mad cause you looked so thin!" Adair quipped, looking up. Zach ruffled his hair as they walked.

Zach, then, turned to her. "I never asked you this, but do you have brothers or sisters? Or are you an only child?"

"Got an older brother, Nathan. He was out of Hogwarts before I even started and we aren't really that close because of the age difference. So for the most part I felt like an only kid," Mandy shrugged.

Mandy chuckled as she felt herself relaxing again. "Never lonely though, there was always some sort of animal running about the property. I think I had it good actually, I rarely needed to worry about the creatures stealing my toys."
