Ginny had just left Mishka at the hospital with Lyda when a beautiful falcon circled her overhead and swooped towards her. Instinctively, she raised her arm and it landed gently on it, surprising the petite redhead.

"Mercy, I thought you were going to... well, nevermind that. Aren't you just the most beautiful bird I've ever seen! I can't imagine who you belong to but I see you have a message for me." Ginny coo'd happily, stroking the bird with avid delight.

Taking the parchment, she was pleased to see the bird remain and with a nudge, she transferred it to her shoulder as she walked back towards the hospital doors. She'd need a quill, apparently. "I hope you don't mind the stroll, beautiful."

Unscrolling the missive, Ginny blushed deeply to see Jack's scrawl, with a traitorous leap of her heart.

Yay! Jack! What does he say?

'If you'll give me a bloody second, I'll tell you.'

He wants to cook for us! Hmm... that could be a bad thing.

'Can you please make up your mind?'

I am your mind.

'Did you have to remind me?'

Oi! ( ... )

Jack smiled as the faint rustle of feathers signified Kali's return. He held out his arm, reaching for the small bowl of water he'd kept on the table for when she came back and bringing it to level. The bird landed, drinking gratefully before outstretching a scaled leg. He untied the letters hurriedly, smiling as she rubbed her beak against her hand before flying off back to her perch.

He hit the pause button on his remote, before making his way back to the desk, picking up his biro again as he sat down.

Ginny,

You're not as glad as me. Nearly was though - terrible injuries, you know? Climactic battles with rotten wood and psychotic owls...it was all very exciting, in essence.

And yeah, this evening is perfect great. Just call around, the wards should let me know when you're here. Also, I've had opportunity to learn a Black Family Fidelity ward recently (don't ask, I don't understand how myself). Mind having a look over it, make sure it's all chicken soup ( ... )

Roger stopped in front of his building after his run, having slowed to a walk to bring his heart rate down. Shifting his weight forward a bit with his hands on his hips, he looked down and watched the shadow come flitting over the pavement towards him, and when he looked up, Jack's new bird, Kali, was hovering in front of his face. She was bobbing up and down as if waving the small roll of parchment. He could swear that there was a most irritated look on the falcon's (rather fierce) face, as if to say, "Look, I've been delivering these blasted things all day. Are you going to take this letter, or am I going to thrash you with it?"

Roger chuckled, taking the letter. It was so Jack. He let out a louder laugh despite himself as he headed up to his flat, noting the Dear Bastard on the outside of the scroll.

Tossing his sweatshirt onto a chair, he went to his desk and took up a quill to quickly pen a response.

Roger,

I already did, I was just hoping you'd say that. And yeah, I thought Lockhart went a bit doo-lalley as well. He's still pretty cr- erm, well, he's not quite right I don't think. But he's a paying customer.

And skill? My arse Davies, you just have a gift for sleight. Ain't nobody can get two Ace pairs and a threes off a flop like you did that night in Haverford. Is Bill Weasley about these days? I remember him sitting in on a few games years ago, might be worth looking him up?

Jack,

That's a great idea, mate. I haven't seen Bill in an age. I'll owl him, and maybe a few others, yeah? We'll all trade lies stories, but only the good ones. I won't tell them about the time you fell off your arse trying to impress that bird with an impromptu step-toe number in Penwith.

Sleight? Hah, bite your tongue, you sod-- I ain't no cheat.
