One of these days I need to find a journal that'll publish an article on the uses of dolphins as generators of terrible, terrible crossover fanfiction ideas ( Read more... )

You have to do a thesis, right? You could totally publish the names as an appendix.

I'm fairly certain you could just publish your notes as fanfic and get a huge following. I know I'd read it.

So hey, new LJ friend! (waves)

I'm assuming it's because of THG fandom but had to give a wave to a fellow marine sci nerd. I did the grad school merry-go-round ride so best of luck to you there.

As for naming shit, I had tagged winter flounder (a href="http://www.elasmodiver.com/Fish%20Pictures/Winter_Flounder_002.jpg">these guys) with various names. I had a Gandalf in there for sure that I remember. In the thesis they all just got referred to by tag number--boo--but they did have names that are on my datasheets.

Please. Biological oceanographers have no sense of dignity. We just have a sense of fun, yo.

or the unusually close association between Doggett, Mal and Haymitch

Also this sounds like an amazing fic prompt.

Pleasure to meet you!
I just discovered you through crack_van (and should have introduced myself) and I've been gleefully making my way through your Haymitch fic. (Everyone is in the field but me this week, and I've been slacking off rather terribly without anyone around to keep me honest.) I'm LOVING every second of reading! Also, I'm really pleased that I'm not the only one who thinks of THG and Mumford & Sons as very complementary.

Truer words were never spoken. I bet we could swap some epic stories! Are you still in the marine science world post-grad school?

Oh man, tell me about it. I should just take my notes and sprinkle them liberally around comment-fic memes.

I figured it was probably THG fic, though you being biological oceanography just made me go \o/

I've been gleefully making my way through your Haymitch fic.

Dear God, you poor thing. Working your way through my epic ramblings?

Oh, you aren't kidding there. So many of their songs just make me go "....Hunger Games."

I worked Alaskan fishing boats between undergrad and grad school as a fisheries observer and I worked on the BP oil spill postgrad, so I've got some stories.

Currently I'm with Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries, so yep, still in marine sci, though I've got an interview with NMFS this week for a job that might work.

Oh man, tell me about it. I should just take my notes and sprinkle them liberally around comment-fic memes. You should. Considering mine would amount to something like "Tigger sat in this same ( ... )
