(See, what happened was, I was thinking about canon, and about how Akari is just the Token Girl™, and there's no way in hell she would ever get Hikaru to marry her, despite being head over heels in love with him, because it's so obvious Hikaru's emotional focus is Akira. And then I thought, hang on, what would happen if they did marry..? And I kinda think this is it.)

Given parental expectations that children will marry, and the longstanding custom of arranged marriage, I've often thought that a "duty" marriage is the most likely outcome for Shindou. Your story does a great (and depressing) job of showing what this situation would probably be like for the wife. Well done!
