Are all the ports this sordid and terrible?  One must admit to a certain measure of curiosity.

I appreciate that it's been a long time waiting for some but in my very humble opinion, the sooner we leave this wretched place, the better.  I'm starting to think I rather preferred the original ancient Rome.

I sure hope they aren't. I'd have to kill someone if they were.

The original Rome?

I was there for a few years - between the reigns of Constantine and Theodosius, if memory serves. They as a society had a great deal more going for them than Britain did at the time but it wasn't what one would call fun.

Depends on your social status.

As with practically everywhere...

I speak of the period in general terms but that's a sentiment I'd be inclined to agree with.

See, this is why I stayed on the boat. If our new captains wanted to impress me with their choice of port, they could have done a hell of a lot better than Rome. In the Stone Age. With no electricity and a ton of pleasant smells.

Oh, the Stone Age was much worse. Even a rudimentary system of public sanitation is better than none whatsoever; in terms of cleanliness, Rome was rather ahead of its time.

One does wholeheartedly agree with regard to electricity and odours, however.

Stone Age, Bronze Age, it's all the same to me. It's before my time.

Awwww, Azi! You aren't even having a little bit of fun?

I'm afraid not, Miss Sweet. Although I confess that I could imagine why you are.

You just need to loosen up a little...learn to have fun.

I know precisely how to have fun. The sort of thing I enjoy simply hasn't been offered by this particular port.

Well...some are heavier on the terrible and lighter on the sordid...and some are just 'huh?', but a few are way better than this.

I'm rather relieved to hear that, Mr. Foster. I'll look forward to seeing you proven right.
