Jul 22, 2007 21:58

So earlier I told you guys we can get the Frank Seal of Approval for our pr0n, a promise from LiveJournal that our pr0n won't invite the wrath of Warriors For Innocence, won't make advertisers sweat, and won't make Berkowitz cry like a baby ( Read more... )

You're seriously proposing a campaign to court direct attention to one's own journal that will quite possibly result in the suspension of said journal?

Not that I think there's no risk of people's LJ porn being found and their journals suspended even if they don't draw attention to it, but still... seems a tad bit suicidal to me.

Yes.

It's not a campaign, however. I'm doing this as an individual. The decision on my fanfic will not apply to anyone else.

I'm tired of Six Apart's vague threats. Opening an abuse case for a particular story will provide definitive answers.

It may have the side effect of demonstrating to Six Apart the insanity of policing fanfiction. But that is not my intent, although it may look on the surface like a pr0n sit-in.

LJ keeps changing their story... first it's "zero tolerance towards child porn, eew" then it's "Fanfic is okay" then "nothing with graphic depictions of children involved in sex" then "we'll use the Miller test".... right now we have no idea what standards are being applied.

And we don't know what'll be done to offenders; they keep switching between "like the TOS says; there's a warning to remove forbidden material" and "obviously deliberate violations will be immediately suspended."

And they've said that it's too complicated and difficult to come up with a set of guidelines other than the convoluted mess they've already given.

The only way to find out what they really mean is to report things. And yes, it may be suicidal--but better we find out now, by people who've presumably had the sense to backup their stuff before asking, than by the next WFI witchhunt.

I think it's only fitting to reply to a lack of coherent rules guidelines with dozens (or hundreds) of individual requests for rulings.

Dude, I would totally do this, except I don't actually think any of my fic fits! I read a lot more than I write, and though I'm not much into pairings that are most at risk, I fully support everyone's right to write whatever the hell they want.

You are a good person. *g* I have plenty that would possibly fail the Six Apart Magical TOS test. But I can't discuss the details of my abuse case, so you'll just have to use your imagination. ;)

Heh, I mean, I write lots of graphic buttsecks, but I tend to stick to consenting adults who aren't related. Never thought that was a bad thing. :P

I didn't see anything in the FAQ that says you can't discuss the details--just that you can't give out the link. I'd assume that means also "can't copy-and-paste text from the discussion to your journal," but that's still not the same as "can't discuss the case."

Is there an additional gag rule on discussion of active cases? (I assure you that WFI wasn't following any "don't discuss" rule!) I know the Abuse Team has an NDA of some sort; I looked for details about reporters' responsibility to keep quiet, and couldn't find anything past "no sharing the link." (And can't find that one now; I hate trying to wade through the FAQ/TOS to get details of "how does this place actually work?")

They are not reviewers. Don't ask them to beta.

Fack! This is where you lost me! I got porns for days. I need a beta, not a goat chewing on my fic.

It would be nifty if they also identified any pronoun confusion, but that might be asking too much of them. *g*

Advice on correct apostrophe use would be nice.

There's so much to love about your post that I don't know where to start.

If I do it, I might do it under a different name. Cos my peeps are here and I'd be lonely if I had to leave.
