Six Apart lost ad revenue, claims Warriors For Innocence

Jul 19, 2007 21:57

The journal suspensions that occurred yesterday and 6A's announcement today may have been spurred by the neo-Nazi scumbag hate group Warriors For Innocence.

After LiveJournal restored some of the journals suspended on Memorial Day, Warriors For Innocence continued to hound Six Apart; that I knew.

What I did not know is [note the information comesRead more... )

I would be surprised if Google scares that easy considering many of the Google ads are suspect and scam-filled...

I don't know what the heck LJ is doing, with all the suspending/unsuspending/suspending crap. And I loved the "We have to suspend LJs because it's the law...that we just made up" basically. Way to justify there.

And while they're policy-making they should state that complaints about illegal activity will be forwarded to the proper authorities and anything that is offensive to readers--well, don't read it then. It's not like this stuff just pops up on your screen at random. You have to go looking for it.

Warriors for Innocence has been caught in at least two lies that I know of, so I'm very wary of the information. However, something prodded Six Apart to start suspending journals again yesterday. I'd like to know what it is.

Burr86's statements today in lj_biz can also be interpreted as a sop to Warriors For Innocence.

Why, out of the thousands of things that could possibly be considered obscene, did burr86 single out only art/text that explicitly depicts minors under the age of 18 (real or not) in a graphic sexual contextIt could be because Six Apart is trying to placate Warriors for Innocence, which said on June 2 ( ... )

"It never ceases to amaze me that people hide behind the words 'story' or 'fiction' or 'legal'. While child rape/sex stories may not be illegal, they are pedophilia."

That is the kind of sentence that makes my blood boil. It's no different from "While performing an abortion may not be illegal, it is the murder of an unborn child." That's not an objective fact, it's a statement of opinion and opinions differ. That's why we HAVE laws, to differentiate between "stuff some people just don't like" and "stuff you're actually not allowed to do."

I just.....they are such putrid, vacuous, self-righteous, moronic, irrational, malevolent BUTTMUNCHES.

Your string of adjectives beats my string of adjectives. :D

Those statements came from WfI shortly after they weakly apologized for the suspension of fic communities. I wasn't surprised they quickly about-faced [in just a day or two] and decided fic was also the devil's work.

I still see Google ads on my reverted-to-plus LJ. Including one I complained about for World of Warcraft gold. Um, no thanks, I get spammed enough for that ingame.

Are they adsense or adword type ads, that appear in plain text? Or is there a banner/image?

I know almost nothing about LJ's ads, since I have a paid account, so thanks for the info!

It was a banner-image yesterday, it's gone now and replaced with adsense-adword type and with other banners.

It was obvious to be me before that 6A would continue to jump at those assholes whims - I mean seriously those WFI are fucked up and don'T care about child molesters, they just use it to insult and trying to ban everyone having a a healthy relationship to their own sexuality.

I'm just glad I am not the only one who is deeply upset about this part - especially since the majority seems just concerned about writing PWP in their fandom, when it actually hits much closer to home.

I'm outraged because WfI uses pedophile hysteria to get their foot in the door. They count on no one raising a finger or voice to defend "child molesters." When they've got their boot on the back of our necks, they'll bring out their real agenda, which is to deport "illegal" immigrants [i.e. anyone brown], ban abortion, and every other item on the right-wing racist list.

It looks like 6A would rather be supporters of WfI than defend the right of their customers to post legal content on the web.

I'm more outraged at 6A playing ball - there will always be religous nuts who use false pretense to try and get their real goals into action, they are mental and full of hate, they can't help it, but why on earth is a business company falling for this?

There is so much 6A could have done different and better, but instead they are going from bad to worse. I just don't get it - especially why not even the simplest things are addressed, unless they don't do it, because they can't.

Because they waiting for a new hit list, will continue to bann people to please WFI and think only fuzzy talk will prevent the majority of users from seeing what they are doing. Which I hope they are wrong about ... it's so obvious people are bound to notice what is really going on.

I love this part: "If the content is similar in tone, context, feel, and level of explicitness to something that could be found on the shelves of a national chain bookstores, we'll take that into consideration as well."

Basically, they're saying well-written fiction by talented writers is subject to more scrutiny than amateur fiction written by people who wish they were talented. They're going to be punishing people for having talent.

I should hope so! Well written porn is far more likely to turn you into a sexual deviant! < / sarcasm >

Someone pointed out to me that it COULD mean the opposite, that well-written works will be in less danger than crap. Like something isn't as offense or obscene as long as it's written well.

They also pointed out that the very fact that the two of us read that one statement so very differently is proof of how vague their so-called "clarifications" are.

Whatever it is supposed to mean, it would be Six Apart, apparently, judging "quality." :p

This is a comment I noted in the WFI discussion:

This information needs to be brought to the attention of the media. Everyone badmouths MySpace, but at least MySpace addresses issues brought to them. LJ and JournalFen (Which is 100 times worse) do NOTHING.

Wonder how long it's going to be before they expand their insanity to other venues.

*lol* so journalFen directed at people over 18 is much much worse, I love them already ...

Yep, they have stated in many places on their site they intend to intimidate and trample on everyone.

I believe LiveJournal gave them their biggest victory on Memorial Day. WfI boasted prior to that they had "cleaned up Blogger" but it appears to have been a lie.

That they mention Journalfen is extremely disturbing. Fortunately, the smaller blogging services are protected by massive disorganization. :D

P.S. You know things are bad when WfI has a better grasp of the law than 6A:

"Just for clarification, child rape stories are not illegal. They are disgusting and unethical, but not illegal." -- WfI, June 15, 2007
