Not going to lie, I miss how it used to be back in the day as well! ...Says the fennec that spends most of his time on Overclock.Net's forums *shifty eyes* ...But I always was one for the computer forums! :P

Used to be upwards of two pages of activity a day on LJ, now it takes two weeks to get that same amount on my friends page, assuming busy weeks o_O

I know, right? Used to be almost a chore catching up - now it's a ghost town.

Back in the day it kind of became a nice relaxation routine for unwinding after work... Seeing how everything was going for others. Speaking of which, I really should update my own journal at some point!

I'm still here, but you'd never know it by looking at my lj. I mainly follow rainbow_ark and its friends page.

Makes me wonder what the next big thing is going to look like. I think we're overdue.

Oculus Rift - super mega advertisement intensive Facebook version!

...Or so some of the rumours are going. I dunno, I might be able to actually like (and use) FaceBook if it's through the Oculus Rift and becomes... Interesting in some way, shape, or form. Augmented Reality is a big buzzword right now, would be nice to see it implemented as an actual usable feature instead of a gimmick :P

Yeah, I agree. Maybe there'll be a rebirth some day. It's unfortunate that it turned commercial. I think that drove many people away.

Even with "easier to use" systems like Facebook and Twitter coming out, the rampant commercialization of LiveJournal sure didn't help - nor did the Russian spammers, and the various other problems they took a while to fix.

You beat me to exactly that - see below!

In thinking about it, I think it was both the commercialization and the trend of the younger crowd to seek 'bite sized' socialization - twitter, facebook, and so on. With twitter (which I admit, I use...) it's 140 characters or less. With facebook, slightly more but after a few lines, it automatically puts a 'cut tag' in place to keep the viewing short. That, and as the younger drowd drives some of the old guard to the outliers, we just become less active within our own community - and as such, things like the facebook of the 'old guard' fade.

Sad, really.

Back in the day when this place required invites to get an account. Boy has time flown past...

Part of my lack of use is not being able to articulate myself well enough, and also part feeling people don't really care.

Then again, I should use this more as it's a good way to log my thoughts and easily backtrack to a specific point. Can be a help (or perhaps a hindrance) for personal growth reasons.
