Okay - so the English contigent left last night for Darwin - they officially leave the country on the 12th. We took them to the airport for their flight - and guess who failed the security scanners. Despite my telling the twit behind the scanner that it was my watch that set it off - he insisted that I remove my shoes first. Great. So I removed

I only have one grandparent left. I never lived in the same state as any of them, but I tried very hard never to take them for granted. I'd go and stay during my school holidays, and at other times talk to them on the phone, write, send silly jokes, etc.
It really upset me that when I didn't go to my Pop's funeral some of the other cousins thought it was bad form of me. Yet they were the ones who never bothered to take the time out to spend with Pop when he was alive, and especially not when he was sick and ailing. I did, and I bet I know what meant the most to him.

I know exactly what you mean about them remembering and appreciating. My nana is awesome and heaps of fun to take care of - I'm her companion, not her carer and I think that makes a lot of difference
