The Wrong Foot and the Right Book

Woooot! My short story "The Wrong Foot" was published in Daily Science Fiction today - so you can read it free online! (And I love the art they commissioned to go with it. That was a wonderful surprise!)

It's a frothy, romantic comedy of manners (based on a skewed version of Cinderella), and it begins:

Needless to say, I didn't want to try on the ( Read more... )

I love that art as well, has a kind of "Little Prince" vibe to it. Bookmarked the story for when I have some time!

What a delicious story!

My reading is all discombobulated, between Looming Deadline and a cold after that. But this weekend, I intend to start reading Cold Steel, which has been waiting for me for weeks now.

Thank you so much, Beth!

And oooh, Cold Steel sounds like a wonderful reward for meeting the deadline!

I got The Wrong Foot on 1 November from thedailysciencefiction (Thanks for the site recommendation!) I've been trawling through the archives there, and am also currently reading Frank Tuttle All the Paths of Shadow (Kindle edition so I can read on a dark background in bed before sleep).

I loved The Wrong Foot as much as the Kat books and for similar reasons; they are captivating and have a fun, sensible, warm female protagonist, and reading them makes the world feel like a better place to me;-)

I just finished "Army Life On The Pacific; A Journal of the Expedition Against the Northern Indians, the Tribes of the COEUR D'ALENES, SPOKANS, AND PELOUZES, in the summer of 1858 by Lawrence Kip, Second Lieutenant of the Third Regiment of Artillery, U. S. Army" (All the spelling above, is exactly as printed in the book.)

It is a daily journal of the march and final battles that, due to the advent of the new, "longer range" rifles that the Native Americans were not aware of, caused the complete surrender/domination of the Indians along the Columbia River, around Walla Walla, and throughout the Spokane Falls and River area, of Washington And Oregon.

It is most revealing. It is not fiction. If one reads with this in mind, revelations of the realities of the struggle between the locals and invaders becomes very real ( ... )

Ooh, that sounds really sad but fascinating.

And that TBR pile sounds great!
