My dad was in the hospital for two days because his chest hurt. He has two (or three?) stents already and doesn't have a particularly healthy lifestyle - to put it mildly. They didn't find anything so he's back home. He was supposed to go to Berlin on Thursday but he'll stay at home now. Mom asked me if I wanted to go instead and now I keep

Yes, that would have been the idea. But I have other stuff to still take care of, so I'm glad my mom said she'd be perfectly fine on her own.

I have to agree with the above comment. Buying your backpack in Berlin sounds like a good plan.

Yes, that's what I was thinking, and my trusted outdoor shop does have a large store in Berlin. But I have to do a couple of other things to do, so I didn't go, after all.

My dad's okay for now, at least. And my mom has left him alone till Sunday, so I'm guessing it wasn't that serious.

Maybe you can just buy the raincover for a size larger backpack?

It took me an embarrasingly long time to get that idea, too. But that wouldn't be a permanent solution, I'm afraid. It might work this once but that doesn't change that the backpack is just not cut out for a tour with a tent, sleeping bag and air mattress. Right now I couldn't even take an extra shirt.

Hm, I don't think I can return the old one. I already used it for a week last year. Anyway, it might be practical to have two, because for a trip without camping, this one has the perfect size.
