Did anybody else have problems with livejournal today? I could hardly load any pages this afternoon, the friendslist didn't load at all. It seems to be okay now, though.

If the current weather is the end of May, I'm dreading June and July. It's nicely warm and all, but, you know, it's supposed to be spring, not summer already ( Read more... )

Oh, thanks for the link! It's funny, I know that page exists, but I never remember where (maybe I should bookmark it...) and if lj's down, I can't search for it, either.

I have original fiction up on the web, and I'm totally happy for people to write fanfic about it. However, the reason I don't mind is kind of the opposite from yours. With the original fiction, there's my canon, and there's everyone elses fanfic. However good or bad it is, the fanfic can't change the canon.

Whereas with fanfic, my 'canon' has equal status with anyone else's. Someone else's version of one of my fanfic universes is equally as valid as mine. And I'd fear really good writers much more than bad ones. They could write something which displaces the way the characters are seen by people who've read my stories. It would feel like it invalidated my version, even though of course it wouldn't actually change the stories themselves.

So, I probably feel much the same way you do about which I'm okay with and which I'm less happy about, although not for the same reasons :-)

Good point! I guess that might actually be why original authors tolerate fanfiction (well, most of them do). It's not like anyone will stop reading their books because they find a lot of other stuff with the same characters on the internet.

Yeah. Not to mention it would make me extremely envious if they made a much better story out of something I "invented". :)

That's so sad. I always have more ideas than I have time, too, and I can't decide which ones to give up.

I don't think I can give this one up. I have to write it during summer break. or I will cry.

And you shouldn't!

I don't want to give up any of mine, either. It's just that after a while I forget all the little details I'd already thought of, and it's harder and harder to get into the mood to write it, until I eventually just abandon it.
