Danny knows all about being haunted. Danny will know how to take him through this, how to take him out of this.

Oh, how achingly true. Both of them are so haunted in their own ways, and Mac trusting Danny to get him through this is just perfect.

Brava.

Thank you! Both of them really are haunted, and I'm fascinated by how much their stories and backgrounds seem to increasingly parallel each other. There's so much potential there for things to explore in fic.

*nodnod* I sent you email about this once but that was around the time life got crazy for both of us, so. I was really struck--"The Thing About Heroes" made it pretty obvious that Mac was running errands for the mob, whether indirectly or not, and it made me think--was his family associated with that? Or was he just the child of parents who didn't care? But Mac's tangles there were a striking parallel to Danny's own encounters with the Tanglewood Boys, no?

Yes, that! Exactly that. Mac's errand-running makes a *very* neat parallel between his past and Danny's misadventures with Tanglewood. It also sheds some really interesting new light on episodes like "Run Silent, Run Deep," in particular the way Mac reacts to Danny's confession, and how hard he then works to clear Danny's name ( ... )

Thank you! It is interesting to see how these events might possibly affect how Danny and Mac relate to each other, and S4 seems to provide a lot of good material for that in general.

He doesn't have to, because Danny is already unbuckling his belt as Mac leans back against the wall and closes his eyes one final time, waiting to be lifted into the light, letting Danny's hands anchor him.

Oh woooow. Welcome back indeed!

There's a good... I don't know if tension is quite the right word. Maybe it is. A weary tension, not between Mac and Danny, but beneath Mac's skin.

Danny knows all about being haunted.

Yes, he does. The line, it's timing and placement, are perfect.

Thank you! I think that's just it: it's about weariness and tension. Mac is just emotionally exhausted at this point, and I think the state of mind I was trying to capture was...well, like after something bad has stopped happening, or some crisis has passed, and you no longer need to be in that state of high tension/adrenaline? But your body hasn't quite caught up to realizing that it's over, and so you're still on that high-tension wire, but in this weird limbo-state kind of way. Like that.

And they really are both haunted. I'm fascinated by how much their stories and background are increasingly paralleling each other.
