Yes, that! Exactly that. Mac's errand-running makes a *very* neat parallel between his past and Danny's misadventures with Tanglewood. It also sheds some really interesting new light on episodes like "Run Silent, Run Deep," in particular the way Mac reacts to Danny's confession, and how hard he then works to clear Danny's name.

And "The Thing About Heroes" also raises a lot of questions about Mac's family. It's pretty telling that, in a show that's persistently focused on family, and particularly in this storyline that's *all* about family, we still don't learn word one about Mac's family, not even once he's back in Chicago. The possibility of his family having mob ties is a really interesting one, too, and something else that's ripe with possibility. I've had a theory for awhile now that he comes from money, and that he resents it and/or has distanced himself from that for various reasons. That would also work here, I think, and would go along with the neglectful parents suggestion, too.

(Also, PS: hai, I totally owe you e-mail right now!)

I can see it one of two ways; either he comes from money and emotionally-distant parents, or he comes from a family with some ties to crime and has distanced himself from that. Or some combination of the above, or something else I know nothing about. But those are my two main theories. (Note that the having crime ties does not preclude the possibility of also having money.)

I'd love to know more about the Taylors, but I don't know if or when we'll ever get that. If we didn't get the background in "The Thing About Heroes", I don't know if we'll ever get canon facts.

(also, PS: hai, no worries. I'll accept any and all forms of email, fic, porn, what have you. No time limit.)
