Cigarette Break

Jun 30, 2005 18:53

Okay, I'd like to petition Whomever may be in charge of things, here... any chance you could cut us a break? Because, fuck. No sooner did Jordan and I get clear of the spell that Heather cast on us to make Taffy's life miserable when she disappeared. Accordin' to Jordan, she just vanished while the two of 'em were sittin' on her couch in the ( Read more... )

Girl. Pretty girl with red hair. If I hadn't been so out of sorts at the moment, my reaction would've been somethin' on the order of, hot damn. She's dressed all in black, and her clothes are torn and messed up, and she's barefoot. Geez, she's leavin' little spots of blood behind when she walks.

I blow out smoke through my nose, turnin' my head away, then look back at her. "Hi?" I say questioningly. "You need some help?"

I light another cigarette from the end of my first one. "Well, uh... Taf isn't here right now."

She has a strong accent. I'm not sure what it is, but it's nice. "Do you wanna sit down? You look kind of--." I trail off, not able to think of a polite way to put it.

I hear voices downstairs. Stefan and someone else. Maybe she's back.

I jump up from my sitting position I'd taken awhile ago and practically run down the stairs, taking them a couple at a time. Opening the door to the porch rather quickly, I see Stefan sitting there with another woman. Not Taffy. She looks peculiar though, red hair with black clothes and no shoes. She looks injured. "What's going on?"

I blink. That voice. I've heard that voice before. I know I have and I just can't remember what from. And then it hits me. The dream. Taffy's great great possibly more great grandmother is standing right in front of me.

"You're dead," I say bluntly, not exactly directed towards her but more to remind myself. "You fought...and the church...and the earthquake and you're supposed to be dead."

"...and we were supposed to know there was a ghost fuckin' around how, exactly?" I give her a look of my own; we were both enspelled and an omen wasn't exactly what we were hopin' to be bitten by. What're you gonna do?

Yowza. I'm pretty sure I didn't order one cranky ex-ghost with a side of bitching. But more importantly. The last thing she said worries me even more. Taffy could be in some kind of what? Dead people world? Where she can see and hear everything? Not likin' it. She needs to be here. With me. Home.

I turn to Stefan. "Well, er, Taffy's not much like her relatives, is she."

Hell. I scowl, then say, "Nah, she sure isn't. I'm very glad."

I push up from my seated position and tear off upstairs after the redhead, followin' her into the apartment. "You're bleedin' all over the carpet," I point out, my tone surly.

Maddie. I can't remember if Taf ever told me her name. I look back at her until somethin' in her gaze makes me look away. I go to the closet and get a couple of towels for her. "Just turn the handle on the faucet when you're ready to shut the shower off," I tell her. "That'll do it. C'mon, Jordan," I say as I hand Maddie the towels.

I'm sittin' in Taf's living room waiting for Maddie to get out of the shower. She's gonna need something done about those feet. Jordan went on home; I think he was too worried and too antsy to hang out here anymore. Can't blame the guy.

I sigh heavily, rubbin' my eyes. I can't say enough that this is so fucked up. There are no words.

"Yeah, I'm done." I get to my feet and go put the first aid stuff up. When Taf comes back, she'll bitchslap me if I leave a bunch of shit layin' around in her apartment. When she comes back. When.

I wash my hands in the bathroom, dry 'em and then come back out into the living room. I have no idea what to say or do next. I'm in an apartment with a girl who's been dead for decades, and my best friend has been zapped who knows where. Too bizarre.

I shrug a little and sit down on the couch next to her, wantin' a cigarette but figurin' I'd better not smoke in here. "Yeah, I guess it is."

Especially since you've apparently been watchin' me and a bunch of other people for a while now. My mind races and I make myself stop as I think of tons of embarrassing incidents. I cough slightly and fidget, runnin' my fingers through my hair and then tapping them on the back of the couch.
