You can tell yourself technically that wasn't a dream as he was awake at the time, more an exploration of his psyche... maybe!

i think at one point benny mentions him being "asleep," so i think it technically counts. OH WELL. TOO LATE TO PUT IT IN NOW

Is it a dream or a hallucination? I thought "Benny" told him if he killed himself he could sleep. It's interesting that he's saw another world entirely, whereas Sam and the poor dead lady saw the house as it actually was, just with the addition of people who weren't there. Maybe because of the MoC?

Hm. I think a rewatch might be needed.

(...Such a good episode!)

Also, is it just me, or has Sam been particularly beautiful since the mid-season break?

it could be either, i suppose. there were lots of "wake up, dean" type things going on, so i assumed it was a dream. (plus it had all the motifs of spn's dream sequences, which is what i'm studying, so my mind immediately jumped there.)

it's interesting that dean saw the place where he would be at peace just as he's literally turning into a monster that would be sent there ANYWAY. all roads lead to rome, and all that.

sam is ALWAYS beautiful, and he gets more beautiful with every passing episode xo

Yeah, it's sort of a "waking dream" situation, I guess. But I'm still struck by how completely different his reaction to the spell was in comparison to everyone else's. Slower onset, more complete onset, more rational reason for suicide, but also a more rational response. (But his face when he killed "Benny"!) Whereas Sam got an easily-ignored ghost and a completely unsuspected "Rowena". And rather than managing to save Dean, he needed rescuing himself--by Dean, who got himself out of "Purgatory" entirely on his own. Again. ...Aaaall kinds of interesting stuff ( ... )
