Yeah, it's sort of a "waking dream" situation, I guess. But I'm still struck by how completely different his reaction to the spell was in comparison to everyone else's. Slower onset, more complete onset, more rational reason for suicide, but also a more rational response. (But his face when he killed "Benny"!) Whereas Sam got an easily-ignored ghost and a completely unsuspected "Rowena". And rather than managing to save Dean, he needed rescuing himself--by Dean, who got himself out of "Purgatory" entirely on his own. Again. ...Aaaall kinds of interesting stuff.

Also, thinking about Purgatory, where he could have inner peace but at the price of outer strife; as is, he has outer peace (mostly) but with inner strife (often)--it's like he can have it one way or the other, but not both. He can't have peace in both aspects, which means he can't really have peace at all.

Sam is indeed always beautiful, but something about him in the most recent run of episodes has been especially so, to the point of appearing almost numinous at times. I don't know, maybe it's just the haircut....
