Mayuri was there, he had just gone into the connected laboratory briefly to check on a test. When he heard the low murmuring coming from the main room he finished his check and swept back in, eyes locking on the bent-over ... child standing near the door.
The voice had been fairly gender-neutral, but he'd thought there would at least be some definition physically. Even the dossier had been unclear on the gender, although it stated that the child was probably male. He could see why there was confusion. Still, gender was hardly his concern; it was considered male, so he simply eyed the boy for a moment before turning to the dossier he'd left sitting on the table.
"Sit down," he said, picking up a syringe and testing it. "It seems your stomach hurts because you've refused to eat. If you stop being so obstinate, your stomach will stop devouring itself." A simple solution - although he certainly wasn't done yet.
A look was given to the 'doctor', suddenly more than a little wary once he laid eyes on the man. "The food tastes bad. There's something funny in it," he said quietly, hauling himself up to the seat that was offered, still glancing around the room this way and that, though his gaze soon landed on the syringe the doctor had picked up.
"What are you doing with that?" he asked warily, lips pursing for a moment, suddenly more than a little ready to go back to his room, back to the corner, and pretend that the world didn't exist.
"It's medication." Whether that was actually necessary or not, he didn't know or care, but if the boy was going to insist on starving himself to death if he was ignorant, then there was no point in not enlightening him. "If you absolutely refuse to eat, keep in mind that this place will have you hooked up to an intravenous drip for the medication and force you into enteral feeding." Mayuri depressed the syringe, snorted, and put it down only to pick up another
( ... )
The minute those cool hands came upon his arm, Crona flinched, pulling away with a scowl, shooting a glare towards the 'doctor' before moving to slide out of his seat and to his feet. "Don't touch me, I never said you could touch me," he said sullenly, suddenly wondering if this had perhaps been a Very Bad Idea. Mother would probably like this man, he mused. Mother would-
"Why do you know about that?" Crona asked as the questions went to another place, giving him a wary, wide-eyed look that lasted only a moment before he was looking around the room for a moment, looking for a corner, for an escape route, anything to stop the room from closing in.
Maybe that security would have been necessary. Mayuri let the boy slip out of the chair, the syringe vanishing back into his sleeve, with only the slightest look of irritation on his face. Oh, the lies he'd have to spin to keep this one in place. Back in Soul Society, all he would have had to do was snap his fingers and Nemu would have him pinned to a table ... or, if he had his sword properly, he'd have all the right poisons in place to keep the child absolutely still.
Ugh. This place really was medieval.
"It's in your file," he said, surprisingly patient for himself. He made sure that he was at least partially between the boy and the door, in case he tried to run. "I need to take a blood sample, in case your stomach pains aren't fully related to the food. I'm sure you'd like a solution as soon as possible." Mayuri didn't have any opposition to lying, but the truth was just so much easier to deal with. He motioned to the chair again. "Sit down, boy - I'd rather not call the security back in here."
