Ash had said to be careful, but it wasn't like Eiji couldn't hide in his room forever where it was safe! He needed to wash and -- you know -- relieve himself. And Ash would there. According to this morning's ... broadcast, this was only one bathroom break allowed during the day. So unless Ash had the world's strongest bladder, he had to be behind this door.

So it was with a light heart and a towel in hand that Eiji slipped inside to better investigate the bathroom facilities. "Ash?" he shouted cheerfully in the clouds of steam.

It was like stepping into the public baths back at home. Steam and people everywhere in towels or not in towels. (Eiji studiously tried not to look at those sans towels)

"Ah," he said, seeing a free shower and running toward it. "Ash, if you are here I am going to take a shower, okay?"

Lukewarm warm water -- a pleasant surprise -- sprayed out from the spout. From what he'd seen of St. Edelweiss, he had expected the bathrooms to look as oldfashioned. Daisy decals and the sink taps to run only cold water.

It was only a few minutes later that Ash sauntered, all attitude and bad-boy scowl. All of his defenses were high up, every survival instinct demanding it. Ash was no stranger to jail, after all, and this place didn't seem much different from it. It was more dangerous, probably. Much more dangerous. Unpredictable. Nonetheless, Ash imagined it had all the same principles. The strong dominating the weak. Ash had to make sure that he and Eiji were counted among the strong, at least as long as it would take for him to get Eiji out of this mess they had gotten them both into ( ... )

Unsurprisingly Ash walked on the balls of his feet, quiet like a cat; Eiji never even heard him coming, until -- oh wow -- there he was still wearing the ripped tuxedo from their stay in golzine's mansion; he was waving and calling Eiji's name.

"Ash, hello!" Eiji fumbled around for the showertap, missed and finally turned it off. "How are you? You look --"

"Uh?" Eiji said to the hand. It looked so pale in the harsh fluorsecent lightning in the bathroom; this close he could see blue veins. There was something weirdly familiar about this pose -- had this happened before and if so when? -- about the way Ash's hand was fingercombing hair and sliding behind the shell of his ear. Eiji slowly tore his eyes from the sight and refocused his gaze on Ash's eyes.

Which were gazing at him meaningfully, which was when Eiji remembered.

Play along those eyes commanded.

"Um, I'm fine," he said, frantically thinking. What were the girls in romances and shoujo manga always calling their boyfriends?? " -- my boyfriend?"

"Hey, call me 'honey'," Ash corrected without so much as missing a beat, winding one arm around Eiji's waist to pull him close enough to be convincing. "Didn't I teach you that once already, baby? You're so cute I can't stand it sometimes. But what trouble are you up to? Who said you could take a shower without me, hm?" Leaning in, Ash brushed his lips against Eiji's temple, then went to nibble playfully at his earlobe before his sharp green eyes flickered around the shower room to make sure no one was paying particularly close attention to them. Once he was relatively sure it was safe, he whispered into Eiji's ear ( ... )

Lloyd was beat to hell. That young man, whoever he was, who had insisted he was a demon, had left him bruised and covered in blood. Quite frankly it was disgusting, and Lloyd felt more tired than he had in a long time. He might be used to physical assault, but nobody had ever been so intent on pummelling him before. And it was undeserved, too!

He needed a shower, to ease the aching bruises in his body and wash off all the blood. Tired and overwhelmed, he stumbled through the shower door, the white of his lab coat stained with blood, a bruise the color of ripe blueberries blooming on his slightly swollen cheek.

He'd just about searched the whole shower room for his clothes by now, and hoping perhaps to discover them in some corner he'd overlooked before, Komui was now combing the entire place again.

Until, of course, he happened to look up and found himself staring straight toward a woozy-looking, blood-covered young man who seemed like he might keel over any second. Wide-eyed, Komui headed toward the man's side just a little warily -- it was entirely possible he wouldn't want a stranger's company, especially with the many different and ever so charming types of people populating this place; but the thought of someone potentially collapsing right in front of him with no one to catch them didn't sit well with Komui's conscience.

"Er-- Excuse me, are you going to be all right there? Maybe you should sit down...?" he suggested a little hesitantly as he walked over, still staring a bit.

Lloyd raised his eyebrows slightly at the other man's concern, smiling slightly even as he began to ease the blood-stained coat off his shoulders, unable to conceal the involuntary wince of pain.

"Quite all right, I think," he said. "Eventually. But on my list of favorite ways to wake up, being assaulted by a crazy young man screaming about demons and bleeding all over my lab-coat does not rate."

"...No, I'd think not," Komui agreed, still staring now for a rather different reason. "Maybe not everyone is here by mistake after all..."

He looked over the other's clothing a little dubiously, then took a step back before holding out his hand. He didn't want to seem too intrusive while this stranger was in the middle of getting undressed.

"I don't know if there's anywhere to do laundry around here, but... let me hold onto those for you? Someone seems to have made off with my clothes while I wasn't paying attention, so better safe than sorry and all..." He frowned as he reached up to scratch his damp head, voice a little wry. "Um, I'm Komui."

The moment he'd finished picking at the... mush they deemed 'food' at this insane asylum (Gaia, and he'd thought cafeteria food was bad), Reeve had wasted no time in getting the hell out of the tiny cell and into the tiny hallways in search of a more open place. Somewhere that wouldn't make him feel like he was packed in a damned sardine can. Or in a prison.

That, and the clothing they'd given him smelled... odd... and he desperately wanted to scrub himself clean.

After several false starts and questions that had gone unanswered (or been answered in ways he didn't want to interpret- apparently there really were a few lunatics in here), he found his way into the shower room and scurried in, looking for a stall...

... and got greeted by a large, open, communal shower instead. A communal shower already half-filled with both genders. Naked.

"Oh, for fuck's sake," Reeve groaned, facepalming.

Takasugi paused in the middle of soaping his chest, glancing over his shoulder at the new voice, which was as of yet unfamiliar to him.

"You take offense to nudity?" he said, not really curious.

"... no, just... not accustomed to it."

The more he listened to the chatter, the more some of the voices began to sound vaguely familiar. Which wasn't really helping him adjust to the whole idea. It wasn't that he had anything to be ashamed of- Gaia knew he kept himself in good shape for his age- but stripping in front of others was just too much. It was too exposing. Almost vulnerable, in a way.

With a sigh, he quickly stripped off his clothing- and just as quickly whipped his towel around his waist, tucking it so that it would stay put and grabbing the sliver of soap he'd been handed. "Into the jaws of death," he grumbled under his breath, stepping in through the spray.

At least the water was halfway warm.

[continued from here]

There was no need to run after the fleeing man, but Shira sped up his steps anyway as he chased Magatsu from the hall into the showers. This was obviously a dead end, and in Shira's eyes, Magatsu had given in to panic and run. But he would not allow him enough time to prepare a surprise attack or find a weapon. A blunt kick opened the door to the showers, making sure that anybody hiding behind the door - accidentally or on purpose - would face a painful surprise.

A cloud of wet, hot air greeted Shira when he rushed into the room, blood running down his face torn ear, dripping down his hair from the wound on the back of his head, hands and arms bruised and eyes mad with rage. In the damp air of the room, it took mere moments until his already blood-stained kimono was clinging wetly to his shoulders. If he had been less focused, he would have been confused about the room with water coming out of the walls, the naked people there, and whatever the hell kind of bathhouse this was supposed to be, but for now, his ( ... )

Magatsu knew Shira would follow him. He was taking the role of prey, and Shira couldn't resist being a predator. However, Magatsu had no plans to let himself be cornered like a desperate animal. He had been a victim in his past life, and he wasn't keen on reliving it. Fighting nail and tooth to the end, that was how he wanted to go- not crying for mercy, or committing seipuku like a samurai coward ( ... )

The pain let Shira see stars for a moment, and it wasn't done with that. Magatsu's hands let his lips burst open against his teeth and crushed his nose, shooting a stinging pain through his face and head, battered nerves letting tears rise in his eyes in reflex. He almost choked on the blood running into his mouth and throat from the torn vessels in his nose. But this wasn't his greatest worry right now. No, if it continued like this, he was finished.

He couldn't die like this here, he couldn't give up so easily, to a punk like Magatsu Taito. He was in no condition to simply throw another man off him after the beating, but pain and rage and despair were a last resort of strength. He took the hit, although the blow let stars dance in front of his eyes again and his vision blacked out for an instant. It wasn't like he could feel much anymore anyway. But the moment he recovered, his hand shot up to grasp Magatsu's wrist, pulling hard. With a snarl of pure, primitive rage, he brought his torso up from the ground, mere inches, but enough ( ... )

He had seen Shira's eyes go blank a moment, seen his movement falter- Magatsu had been so sure the man was finally losing consciousness.
He was so close. So close to avenging O-Ren, so close to finally ENDING Shira, so close to victory he could taste it as clearly as the blood in his mouth ( ... )
