I GUESS I'LL GO AND HOPE I'M DOIN IT RITEpyrocratOctober 3 2008, 20:14:25 UTC
This was far from Azula's first ball. It was even far from her first ball surrounded by enemies. It seemed, at times, that the former happened every week, and the latter every two - at least until she had crushed the Earth Kingdom beneath her heel. (Even then, of course, there were enemies all around them, traitors within the Fire Nation who would like nothing so much as they would like to see the destruction of her, and her father, and her country. They were there all the time, just waiting for her to slip up, and - )
Even so she was...well, uncomfortable was hardly the proper choice of words given that she was simply not a person who got uncomfortable, but she felt keenly the divide between herself and all the rest of these fools. She hadn't been displeased when she'd seen her gown - a strange and stylized thing but made of familiar, warming colors, all golds and reds - but now, looking at all the other girls, all of them all but matching in their drab dresses so very unlike hers, she felt out of place

Paul & Linali; OPENandgettingworseOctober 3 2008, 20:19:47 UTC
There were no words to do Paul's annoyance justice, and the sour expression on his face showed that much. Having no other choice, he had put on something nicer than his working clothes for once, but with the pockets of his trousers and vest stuffed with all the small things he thought could be needed during the evening - mainly, of course, sedatives, in case that girl should start to protest too much - and the childish pout on his still very white and very dead face, the overall impression wasn't changed at all.
He had been walking through the room, not exactly with a speed that was appropriate for Linali's weakened legs, and scanning the crowd for the patients the staff members had chosen. Not exactly all unexpected, and not exactly helping his mood either.
Now, he stopped and threw an angry glance back at the girl he was holding unnecessarily tight by the wrist and dragging after him.
"Don't be so damn slow," he hissed, with a pointed glare at her face. "And stop with that stupid pout."
She did not want to be here, and that was evident in her facial expression, the way she moved reluctantly despite Paul's iron grip on her wrists. He was literally dragging her across the room, not even bothering to care about the fact that her legs were bandaged and weak from injury. He didn't seem to care about much anyways.
Linali glared. She'd pout if she wanted to, thank you very much. She was putting up with this for her brother's sake, but that did not mean, on any circumstances, that she had to enjoy it.
"Fine." she hissed back. "Can we stop walking, now?"
Clunky boots were almost precariously high and tripping would not be a good thing and was probably bound to happen at the speed that he was pulling her along at. Linali sighed inwardly- trying to reassure herself. It would be alright, she'd just have to last a few hours here, and maybe she'd manage to find someone friendly to talk to.
To look on the bright side, at least she didn't have to dance with him.
This girl was so annoying. Paul answered her with another glare at first, only deciding to even give her an actual reply after a few seconds of silent staring.
"No, we can't," was what he replied flatly, sneering. "Tired already? You knew what you were getting into. That's your own problem. Now, hurry up. I don't want to stay here all evening."
While dragging her closer to the exit, carefully looking over his shoulder occasionally to see if they were being watched, he hissed under his breath, "See, if you play along and we get out of here, your side of the deal is done. And that means your brother dearest isn't gonna be touched."
Stopping and turning around again after a particularly hard pull, he looked at her and asked, "Got it? I don't want to be here any more than you do."
Open to Elle and Ants and anyone who wants to interrupt them :DscossaelettricaOctober 3 2008, 20:33:35 UTC
Elle had spent a fair amount of time getting ready for the ball festivities. The dress they'd come up with was a bit... well, traditional and old-fashioned, but it was blue, and it was pretty, and that was good enough, by her standards.
So when it came time to head to the ball, she knocked on the door of the bathroom-- Ants had been escorted to his private bath, clothes laid out and all, not too long ago-- and had gone inside the courtyard.
It really did all look rather spectacular. "It's all so pretty~! Do you see any of your friends here?" she asked, grinning widely at him.
More than evident that she was having a grand time already.
A ball with the entire faculty and certain patients that he didn't know very well nor cared to know was not Anubis' idea of fun. He was fairly certain that something better was going on tonight that he difinitely didn't want to miss. At least he wasn't totally alone, as some of the other patients were his allies. He wouldn't be able to speak to them most likely though. Tonight was his date with Elle, so he had to make sure that she had a good time first and foremost. Not that he wouldn't get to have some fun with the other patients with her. The promise of Naruto in a dress, while completely ridiculous on the boy's part, should at least be entertaining for all.
As they walked into the courtyard, he tugged at his clothes awkwardly, not used to having to wear such restricting clothes. The assistants that he'd been provided thought it was necessary to make sure that everything was as tight as possible. The prep work hadn't been all bad though. He was able to take a private bath and he had the time to appropriately clean the cuts and

Open to Heine and Claire at first, and then Badou and Orihime, too *\o/*fuckingblondieOctober 3 2008, 21:20:18 UTC
All of her big events previously had ended horribly. Homecoming. The cheerleader party... thing. New York.
She didn't want to die tonight, she really didn't, so perhaps Heine was the best choice, after all. He'd... look out for her, apparently. And Jack would be there, too. And Orihime and Badou. It... wouldn't be so bad.
Didn't mean she wasn't completely thrown off guard by what he'd done to rescue her from Paul.
Regardless, when the two escorts came to bring her from her cell to her private bath, she took her sweet time.
Oh, this was amazing. The dress itself was... surprisingly pretty. Classy. It fit like a glove, too. Anytime now, Heine should... be picking her up from here, to her knowledge. Orihime was probably ready by now, or getting dressed, or already mingling inside at the ball with Badou.
Either way, she was fully intending on having a good time tonight. Well... as good of a time that she could have as Heine's date, anyway.
CLOSED TO JACK AND OROCHIMARU AT FIRST. OPEN TO OTHERS SOON AFTER.drbadtouchOctober 3 2008, 22:19:35 UTC
Lifting his chin, Orochimaru moved into the large almost outdoor-y area, glancing around with a slight smirk.
It wasn't that often that he was allowed out into this place, and so it was a nice change from constantly perusing the hallways looking for patients to spend his time with

Jack was not feeling well, for a variety of reasons.
He looked, quite frankly, like an idiot, and felt like one too (a top hat, for crissake? He looked like some rich boarding school boy.). His best friend in the world here was going out with some memory-deprived guard and seemed determined to make Jack's job to protect her all the harder; his-- escort-- was an insane man who apparently had no scruples or preferences when it came to choosing his bed mates; and, to top it all off, he might finally get to meet the biggest bastards in Saint Edelweiss, all in one night, and it probably wouldn't be a grand idea to hit them, however much they deserved it.
Oh. And he didn't much like dancing, either.
He made his way rather quickly to the Courtyard, glancing around a bit self-consciously. He saw Elle there, which made his insides writhe a bit; he looked a bit and saw Claire, which also wasn't fun for his inner workings (she was with her date you see).
How the hell do you find a doctor when they're all here and you don't know them except
( ... )
A small smirk crossed Orochimaru's face as he heard the now-familiar voice from off to his left. Turning slowly, he moved towards the sound, still smirking.
Indeed this Jack... his body was quite acceptable without being too much for Orochimaru's taste. There could very well be even more interesting than he had originally anticipated.
Creeping up on the other man slowly, Orochimaru lifted a hand, letting it rest on Jack's shoulder a moment before sliding it slowly down his arm.
"I believe that would be me," he said in a soft, confident voice, moving a little closer to the other. He smelled... really quite interesting. Masculine. Brave. Almost ridiculously chivalrous. It was delicious and he couldn't help but to lick his lips.
It really wasn't the voice, although that was admittedly creepy. And yes, the arm-touching alone would have made him jump: not because it was another male doing it, but because of the, the intimacy of the gesture.
But it was the lip-licking that really set Jack off.
He did not, to his everlasting pride, yell out (although his hackles were raised and his heart hammering like nobody's business). Yanking his arm away, he spun to face the man. Oh, god, he even looked creepy. Just a little taller than Jack, sallow skin, hair that was far too long . . .
The only good thing about his appearance was that it made up Jack's mind even more. He would not allow this man near Claire, no matter what.
Glowering up at the man, he growled, "Don'. Touch. Me. Jus' a'cos we're here together, don' get no goddamn ideas." Grimacing, he glanced around. Of all the doctors in all of Saint Edelweiss, why did the one doctor willing to take him have to be the creepiest, most disgusting one of them all?
