STAFF BLOCK stedelweissmods September 26 2009, 18:58:01 UTC
[The old, unadorned wooden door is not locked, but behind it, you can hear faint voices, steps, and the occasional laugh or grunt. Two male voices that you do not recognise seem to have the most constancy, and occasionally, after the creak of a door and another pair of feet tapping over the stone floor, another male or female voice may join in, before disappearing again after another wooden creak. But it is late, and you know that most of staff is either sleeping, or following through with whatever kind of experiments they are busy with right now - and therefore, far away in the therapeutic block. The door opens surprisingly easily and silently, and leads to a large, but plain hallway with several doors on all sides. Straight ahead from the door that you have just passed through, a long corridor with doors on both sides (some opened, some closed, and the latter with the sounds of steps and work being done coming from behind them) leads to where your orientation tells you you need to be: the boiler room ( ... )

To Face, this was just another mission. He might not have access to the weapons or technology he would like, but he would simply have to deal with that accordingly and not let it slip him up. He waited silently for a moment, judging the tone of the voices behind the door; relaxed, easy conversation. He'd hear if it changed to anything more menacing. He could hear the other guards pacing, too, but didn't plan on slipping off to investigate.

Instead he hovered silently near the door then nodded once to the other assigned guard and jerked his head towards the boiler room, wishing he could trust these people as much as he would have trusted the Wraiths.

Ushering his small group along in the darkness, Cross kept a watchful eye on his renegade pack. Thanks to labels, he knew the door ahead would lead right inside the staff area, but it was something they had to go through all the same. The door was carefully pushed open, hinges groaning, and the group silently herded inside by the General. Things were going well so far, but now the adventure (and danger) had only just begun ( ... )

He hadn't really figured out on why he agreed on following Cross on this excavation for something neither of the people in the group knew about, much less knowing if it'd work at all. Snorting in his mind at it, he waited for Cross to finish talking before silently moving down the corridor, making sure not to let any sound escape his path. Stealth was one of his fortes after all, despite his still in his eyes pitiful state.

If the lotus was with him, he'd healed in half a day. But that was a thought he'd stopped hoping for. At least he didn't get dizzy from moving his head around anymore. Ridiculous. It was all ridiculous. He took a step ahead, then stopped as the murmurs of voices got louder before thinning out again. No excessive movement, and no talking. He could do that completely. Now he just missed the familiar weight of Mugen in his hand.

BOILER ROOM stedelweissmods September 26 2009, 18:58:32 UTC
[Through the door from the staff area, you have made it into a narrow hallway leading to your left and to your right. There were voices talking in the small rooms to your right, and you've made the correct decision to follow your instincts (and the noise and smokey smell unmistakably connected with boiler plants) to your left. There, behind a heavy steal door your leader's key could thankfully unlock, you find the boiler room abandoned ( ... )

After Cross broke away from the lookouts, he hurried down the corridor and ducked through the first door, which placed him in a smaller area filled with doors. He pondered for a moment, then veered off to the left, heading for the actual boiler room that Howl had just unlocked. Pleased that the key actually worked, he gave a quick nod and encouraged the group to branch out with a wave of his arms. "Go on, then, look around. We didn't come all the way here to stand around and gawk."

He would leave the heated room to the others for now-- there were quite a few doors out here in this second hallway that intrigued him. Perhaps he'd be able to open a few.

Well, it would be a shame to get this far and not even see the boiler room. Who knew, maybe they would have to cut short early. So for the sake of getting a glimpse of their purpose, he poked his head inside for a quick look around, cringing at the stifling heat and the overwhelming smell of charring and smoke. The latter was actually kind of comforting.

Still, his warning of, "Be careful, damn it, it's hot. Don't melt your hands to anything," was quietly barked out, even though he was sure they all had enough common sense not to touch any ridiculously hot metal. Never hurt to be cautious, though.

He blinked and straightened up at the call of his name, glancing to Alyss. "What's the matter?"

[When you turn on the radio, a low static greets you at first. To your luck, you find the frequency working and connecting you with your team mates on the other side.]

[There's a faint crackling, then, softly,]

Team, this is lookout. Trouble headed your way, not sure what. Sounds female.

BOILER ROOM/LAUNDRY AREA HALLWAY stedelweissmods September 27 2009, 18:10:19 UTC
[The hallway before you is narrow and surprisingly clean. Only the formerly locked boiler room door, the door to the room closest to it, and the area in between show large smears of black dirt and what is obviously scorch marks. There are two small metal plates on the wall, one with an arrow towards the boiler room, reading "HEIZRAUM"*, and another with an arrow pointing towards the room next to it, reading "ARBEITER-UMKLEIDERAUM"*.

The heat from the boiler room is seeping through into the hallway, although much weaker here. You can still hear voices from the other end of the hall, muffled by closed doors. It is obvious that the walls here, in the hallway itself, don't swallow sound all too well.]

[Note: If your character speaks German, he can read that as "Boiler Room" and "Workers' Changing Room" respectively.]

WORKERS' CHANGING ROOM stedelweissmods September 27 2009, 18:52:49 UTC
[As you open the door, the stench of sweat and dirt meets you before anything else. Bundles of clothes are thrown carelessly into the corner of the relatively small room - small at least compared to the number of old lockers all around the walls - and in the middle of the room, you can see two plain wood tables, with the legs partially broken and obviously manually fixed. The number of chairs is in no relation to the number of workers obviously present here during their shifts. Just as the boiler room, this room is on first glance completely abandoned for the time being. The lockers are closed without exception, but on the table, you see dirty dishes and the remains of meals, as well as a deck of playing cards and a few dices. There is also a black book bound in worn-out leather on one of the chairs. Strangely, some chairs are thrown over, and although there are obviously personal possessions kept in this room, nobody seems to have bothered locking it.]

"Be careful," he hissed from behind Alyss, rather concerned with the way she blazed right on to the room. What if there was something dangerous inside? He didn't want to see the poor girl hurt.

He stayed barely a step behind, ready to yank her out of the way at a moment's notice if anything lunged for them. He peered inside, taking a quick survey of the room. No threats, it seemed... but lots of things to look through. "All right," he said with a calming exhale. "Let's see what we have here, shall we?"

Inside he went, first setting the lone radio he still carried on one of the tables in the middle of the room before scouting out the lockers, carefully inspecting and attempting to open the first few.

[Most of the lockers are indeed locked, but a few attempts actually bear some fruit: inside the first of those, you can find a bundle of neatly folded, clean working clothes in a rather large size, along with a pair of heavy, far dirtier boots, equally large. There is an old photograph of a middle-aged woman in the back of the locker, a military knife, and a small pocket watch with stained glass and a crack in the glass.]
