She didn't need a reply, really. As he had said, Rin was welcome at any time. As far as Cross was concerned, she was one of the more valuable links he could distinguish in the chain of patients. To anyone else, it was likely strange for a man such as him to put so much stock in to such a small, young girl, but where he came from, youth and size were nothing. Children were thrust in to war every day; he was used to teenagers being capable fighters and/or wise beyond their years

"Be careful, Cross," she muttered, her voice thick and hoarse, obviously deviating from her natural tone. God, if she sounded horrible to herself, how she must sound to him... Rin scraped her hair away from her forehead. Her bangs were soaked with sweat, sticking to her skin, and she moved over to Cross and sat down at his bedside, going for his hand again and closing her eyes.
She felt hot and thirsty and exhausted, and yet again ignored. Maybe the fucking godling was right and it was better to drop the whole business of getting the patients to support each other. She didn't follow Anubis' logic, or agree with it, but it seemed fairly useless to try and go against it when he had so many people stuck on supporting him.
Stupid, stupid, worthless...
She had to start guarding herself. Which meant beginning to distance herself... which was no good, but might be necessary anyway.
Was he okay? He gave her an awkward look, brows furrowing. "I'm still talking and moving. I'm fine." For the time being, yes, he was doing quite well. They could always discuss that later, though. Right now, he was more concerned with how Rin was holding up.
He was comfortable with letting her hand rest in his, bringing the other over as well to give the back of her hand a light pat. With such a limited range of movement, there was little he could do to comfort her at this distance. Shame, too, because the poor thing looked like she needed some kind of reassurance. The General wasn't the most sensitive person in the world, but he occasionally made it a point to try, when the right people were in need.
She moved a little closer, chafing at his hand awkwardly, tempted to go in for a hug. A little too risky to venture that far, probably - he was still injured, after all. She didn't want to jog him. "You should move carefully," she murmured. "God knows what would happen if you tore something." As if the rosary wasn't bad enough already

Cross chuckled quietly-- not at her, of course. More at the situation. He had heard bits and pieces concerning this deal between Anubis and Shira, but no details. He had no idea who the chosen five were, or why Anubis had even deemed it necessary to strike such a deal in the first place. It was obviously causing problems now, regardless. "Fool," he sighed, head shaking
