Heero walked carefully through the halls, shower supplies in tow. He paused, seeing the condensation around the window, and braced for the wave of heat that came out at him when he opened the door.

He made his way through the clouds of steam, passing the dozens of empty stalls as he went. He slowed half way through the room, looking around for the man who he'd spoken with, and the other-- Duo, who insisted he knew them both, as well as any interlopers.

He was glad for his slower pace when a tall man-- boy, not much older than Heero himself-- seemed to materialize out of the mist. Heero drew back for a moment, shoulders tensing slightly before he saw the scar on the man's face-- and relaxed. "You're early," he said, relieved.

Finally, he'd managed to get the bastards together in one damn room, Duo thought, making his way briskly down the corridor. For some reason, probably because Quatre wasn't here and so he was the only pilot present who actually enjoyed utilizing his vocal cords, Duo'd become the default "get the band together" guy. Unfortunately, he sucked at it, considering this was the first time he'd been able to get them all to meet. He hadn't even managed it when Wufei was around, and now Wufei was silent and, Duo soundly hoped, dreaming somewhere in a meditative stasis and not lying dead in the pool or something ( ... )

Trowa was about to respond to Heero's 'greeting' (if it could be called that), when Duo busted into the room. The long-haired pilot had barely entered the room before he started taking out his hair and taking off his clothes. It wasn't surprising, and it was fairly efficient ( ... )

Heero grunted out a reply to the tall man-- Trowa, his mind supplied. Duo hadn't lied about the damage; it was extensive, more than he'd even thought, given how well he was able to communicate.

He turned his attention toward Duo, easy to recognize from voice alone after the repeated badgering. Duo's braid was his most obvious feature-- the fact that a Gundam pilot had a rope of hair that long reinforced the impressions he'd gotten from speaking with him, defiance in the face of authority. European features, both of them. Long time residents of the colonies or natives themselves, he'd have to determine.

Tentative allies, supposed friends.

Friendship. For Heero, their assertion of being his friends, not just his allies or comrades, was what struck the most discordant note within him. His training aside, Heero found the idea-- unlikely. They hadn't gone to Earth to make friends. They'd gone to stop Oz. Protect the colonies. He'd been warned of the bonds between soldiers, its tendency to bring people together-- to place the ( ... )

Duo moved to the showerhead nearest the two of them so that Trowa and Heero wouldn't have to strain their dulcet tones. He wondered if they could ever break free of the confines of their low voices, let loose a great yawp or battle cry or something. Maybe he ought to encourage them to try. Hell, encourage the whole asylum. That was what it needed, a series of mighty yawps all scratchy from transmission, echoing down the dank halls, bouncing off the thick glass windows. Duo could have made himself heard from the other side of the shower room if necessary, but all right, he'd humor the pair ( ... )
