Paul may have been on the verge of wetting himself in glee, but Cross was at the other end of the spectrum. He had set to pacing the cell without pause for the entire duration of his wait, teeth biting back his fingernails even further than what they were already gnawed down to. The antsy feeling made him ache for a cigarette, though he knew better-- he kept those God-sent little treasures well-hidden for the time being, figuring Paul would likely confiscate them just to be a dick ( ... )

There was a lot about Cross that Paul plainly hated, and it all came down to one feeling of seething dislike. The room smelled weird, when he opened the door, but he didn't care enough to identify the smell. Cross really followed. Now that was a surprise. He'd expected more trouble from the guy, especially after he had somehow disappeared before. But this wouldn't work, he was not going to turn his back at that guy ( ... )

Cross Marian was an interesting subject. Not just because he was an Exorcist, and not just because he had been here before, but because of his work with the dead. If what Paul had heard was correct, Cross knew how to reanimate a corpse and reinstate its abilities to make it do his bidding. Additionally, he was a very powerful Exorcist back in his world. The idea of being able to rip him open to try to figure out what the source of his power was and force him to tell them about the art of reanimation was ... excitingFor the first time in quite a while, he had a potentially incredible weapon at his fingertips. Replicate this ability, and even dead Shinigami could be brought back to do as they were told. The boundaries of death, breached once again ( ... )

Paul had to bite back a snort, which didn't really work as well as he had planned. Not entirely honest was one way to express it, but his amusement was more on Mayuri's account. Looked like there were things the crazy old shit better left to him, like information gathering. He was almost delighted Cross had fooled Mayuri, but knowing the doctor's temper, he wouldn't say that, not now.

He pushed Cross forward, slamming the door shut behind them just because he could, harder than was necessary.

"Sit down," he ordered flatly, not even trying to hide the glance he threw at Allen's decapitated arm. Those exorcists and their powers had really no appeal to him. He couldn't care less, whether it was about the outcome of Mayuri's experiments or about the exorcists themselves, but he liked winning. Now Allen? He had been troublesome, and he had lost. That was fun enough to make him smile, even when he looked back at Cross deadly ( ... )

Cross scoffed as he was forcefully shoved in to the room, catching himself after a few steps and straightening his posture as well as his shirt. He stole a glance behind him at Paul, then faced forward towards Mayuri again, expressionless all the while. "I've been perfectly honest with you. Don't be bitter just because I didn't tell you everything all in one go. The important things came first." His stomach may have been churning with dread, but he outwardly looked and sounded calm, and God damnit, that was what mattered most.

That is, until his gaze trailed the same route as Paul's. As soon as the redhead caught sight of the gruesome artifact, he immediately locked up and took a stiff step back. There was absolutely no mistaking that arm, mangled as it was.

Disgusted, he cut a glare at Mayuri, roughly shrugging Paul's pressing hand away and pointing to the severed limb, snapping out, "What is that?" Though, perhaps a more appropriate question would have been: What happened to the body that arm is supposed to be attached to?
