Cross Marian was an interesting subject. Not just because he was an Exorcist, and not just because he had been here before, but because of his work with the dead. If what Paul had heard was correct, Cross knew how to reanimate a corpse and reinstate its abilities to make it do his bidding. Additionally, he was a very powerful Exorcist back in his world. The idea of being able to rip him open to try to figure out what the source of his power was and force him to tell them about the art of reanimation was ... exciting.

For the first time in quite a while, he had a potentially incredible weapon at his fingertips. Replicate this ability, and even dead Shinigami could be brought back to do as they were told. The boundaries of death, breached once again.

The door opened, and Mayuri glanced back to see Cross and Paul coming in. He quickly went back to his tools, however, double-checking, making sure everything was in its proper order. Syringes, needles, a jar or two, scalpels, a knife, a saw in case they needed to get through a more difficult bone or two ... and possibly the most threatening one of all:

That Exorcist boy's severed arm, lying on a rag where he'd been trying to pull it apart. It seemed that the power had faded with the boy's death, but there was still use to it.

"Put him in the chair," he instructed Paul, picking up a syringe for the first of what would undoubtedly be countless blood samples. "Cross Marian, I believe you have not been entirely honest with me as far as your information about Innocence goes."
