It came as a surprise to Graham when the stool smashed against Hidan's throat - enough of a surprise to stun him for a moment before he remembered that they weren't actually supposed to be fighting, but that Hidan was trying to prove his immortality and the glory of his god. The wild grin came back in an instant as the man coughed blood, splattering onto Graham's dull patient uniform. The stink of metal filled the air, bringing back joyous memories, and in an instant Graham had brought the stool back up and onto the back of Hidan's head.

There. He'd done it. He'd killed him and he was going to be remembered here forever. Graham couldn't help with hysterical laugh that escaped him as he bashed Hidan's skull over and over again with the stool, feeling it splinter and shatter under his fingers - the stool, that was, not the man's skull, although soon enough it would be the skull, oh yes - and when it finally crashed apart and the pieces fell to the floor, he picked up where it had left off by swinging both fists together at Hidan's ( ... )

Jashin, but the kid had enthusiasm. That was why he'd sort of picked Graham out, Hidan guessed; you needed enthusiasm to keep with Jashinism for long, because the rituals sure as fuck didn't give a lot of flowers-bunnies-and-rainbows payoff. It was a good thing, seriously. It really was.

But it hurt like a bitch, and the blood was going to be hell to get out of his hair. Hidan hit the ground and rolled before the follow-up blow could connect, wheezing and still spraying blood everywhere. Damn, he'd taken worse hits, but this was just really fucking messy.

And, as he discovered, when he tried to force a word out... he couldn't fucking talk.

Wasn't that just a pisser. Couldn't fucking talk.

Ah --

Graham nearly tumbled straight onto his face as Hidan avoided the last blow, his knuckles scraping the ground for an instant before he was back up again, glaring at the bloody mess that was straying away. He glared at Hidan, ready to snatch up some fallen piece of the stool from the floor, when he recalled that this level of damage should certainly have killed the man by now. A crushed throat, at least two concussions, that much blood loss ... and yet he was still standing.

Sort of. And bleeding everywhere. Graham, his hands and uniform completely splattered in blood, turned to frown unhappily at his target. Normally he wouldn't have let up, but he had to keep reminding himself that this kind of attack should have already killed the man. If he didn't die, then ... would Hidan be right? Would the glory of his god really save him from the death that was so inevitable ( ... )
