Lots of great videos, they taught me to knit :) They do have kits at craft stores, don't invest too much money to start. Make sure you like it. If you do then don't waste anymore money at the Michael's or Joanns, find a real yarn store in your area. Much better stuff there. Also, if you decide to knit you have to join Ravelry.com. It is the best best best online resource for patterns, advice and for meeting up with local knitters.
i vote for the lace scarf! the pattern with those colors would sortof make it look like an old copper grating that keeps wandering fingers out of the way of big gears. or something. i'm tired. xD
There is a selection of free patterns at http://www.lincraft.com.au for knitters. There are scarves, shawls, shrugs, beanies, berets, arm warmers and much more.
What about some long gauntlets/fingerless gloves?? It's such gorgeous yarn, I don't know if I'd sell it short with a simple scarf. A shawl at the very least... but if you're looking for something to incorporate into a steampunk outfit, I'd stick with an accessory like gloves or a hat, maybe??
It's lace-weight?? One of those long, Elizabethan-like collars would be an awesome knit project/accessory too... I have that pattern around here SOMEWHERE.... :p
