Although, if you factor in the increasing need to beat off members of fandom in these dangerous days, it isn't necessarily all that out of context.

I've actually needed a walking stick for most of my life and have had to defend myself on several occasions. Oddly enough though despite some training in jo-jitsu (short staff fighting) and some shoulin work I have never actually used the stick as a weapon. In my case it's because I felt it more important to use the stick to keep me upright :) However never underestimate the power of surprise when a thug is looking at the stick in your hand and so totally misses the hand/foot/ razor sharp wit coming from the other side :)

If any of you fine chaps and chapesses are from Blighty, specifically the north, the Royal Armouries in Leeds do occasional demonstrations of this art. Playedd out very well by a couple of fine fellows acting out the roles of Holmes and Watson.

Well worth a look if it is on when are there. If not, just have a great day.
