Steampunk Sewing Patterns

Mar 20, 2012 22:57

So, Simplicity has released a new steampunk sewing pattern, and I think it's pretty awesome.

To celebrate, I made a post on my blog with a bunch of sewing patterns with steampunk potential, including a whole lot of free ones.

In fact, I have a whole category of posts on my blog that are nothing but links to steamy patterns.

Hope it's useful!

Cool. Now if they'd just release some decent plus-size patterns for us larger ladies. :(

Yeah, I don't know why they don't. It can't cost that much more to make. I'm lucky in that I fall right on the top edge of their sizes. I do have a tutorial up on how to upsize a pattern.

For larger sizes, Truly Victorian is great.

Yeah, I know how to scale patterns and how to draft some really basic stuff, but it's still kinda irritating to pay that much for a pattern, then do a lot of work to make it fit at all. :<

Unfortunately the pattern companies don't realize that people larger than pattern size 22 want interesting garb. The only one big at all is Simplicity 2354 which goes up to size 32W, 54" bust. That one's pretty versatile, though. You can start with the dress and change things around, add things, take things off, get creative. But I would also be happy to see larger sizes in a lot of those fancy patterns; some of them only go up to 20 which these days in the store would be like a 14 or 16!

I must say that new pattern has all the parts one could want that were only available in the super spendy pattern brands before. Certainly there's nothing stopping us from mixing and matching bustles, drapes, etc.

No problem. As I told a friend, this is what I do for FUN. (Hours and hours looking through pattern websites...)

Yeah, I can't get into a store size 20, much less a pattern size 20. But this looks fairly upsizeable (is that a word?) and at the least I'll add it to my pattern stash for reference. Thanks for spreading the good word.
