For those of you who may have missed it, Letters of Note has posted what may be the first use of the term "steampunk". The Hunter S. Thompson fan in me would have really liked "gonzo-historical" too.

steampunk cinema huge in 70s
big budget verne-esque films were mainstream
moorcock did plenty of work in this genre and edited compilations of victorion sf - i still wanna see proper victorian war of the worlds
